    I'd say SUPER converter, it's free and really good. The layout of the site sucks though. Google Super.

    eg. avi to dvd, dvd to avi, avi to mp4...... ect

    Super converter does virtually all formats including DS, PSP, and Ipod.

    ones that do everything tend to suck especially when it comes to dvd encoding.

    Er, no, it doesn't have any viruses, or else my AVG would have picked up on that :) There's Total Converter, it's nearly as good as SUPER converter format wise.

    ok im going with super converter but the lay out of the site is so bad i cant find the download link so can someone tell me where it is ???

    AVS media is excellent and free.
    It does ipod, psp avi, mp3, rmvb, etc... basically all the media file types to the one you want

    You run the program. You drag and drop your media files into the box. Choose your encoding settings and output audio options and whatnot etc. Click Convert.

    i dont see a convert button just and encode, but when i do it the converted file is only a a couple hundred kb's? (note: im converting a flv file i tried to convert it in too .mov and .wmv but the same thing happens)

    Encode is the same thing, so click that. Usually the converted file is less than the original source, depending on the output format.
