I was rather impressed by this. I would never have thought that that was possible...but hey. We never know what tomorrow holds!

    LOL
It never occurred to me that anyone would try this. Or the thought of this even happening. :p
I wonder what they'll do with the technology?

I swear I need to arrive before msg does, as I was just about to say something similar about how the porn industry will skyrocket in a few years.

Seto Kaiba's Solid Vision is coming true XD cant wait til someone make a working dual disk with solid vison XD

plus with touch able hologram, will allow true motion gaming, no need to swing the controller to pretend you are hitting someone with you hand, you can actually hit them for real.

also imagine the next gen hentai game for otaku XD

It reminds me of futurama where everyone gets a robot/hologram(i cant remember) girlfriend/boyfriend and humanity dies because they dont reproduce.

As for myself, all they need to develop next are traveling via Warp-Drive & transport pods & the universe WILL BE MINE!

imagine the games if you have a star trek style holodeck

Imagine the anger you'd feel when another player picks on you & PK you repeatedly.

As if it's not annoying enough when you get picked on in a "normal" game, just imagine how blood curdling it would be in this sense.

    well.....play it on easy lol

No serious it would be awesome, an actual war in place of COD!! a proper cage and guy to fight in UFC 2023(or whatever).
A real f22 to fly in ace combat 17, a full city to solve a mystery in, YOU MIGHT GET TO USE A LIGHTSABER!!!!!!!

Hologram games will be the future no doubt, I'll probrably be dead by the time they are good though :(

OK then, a somewhat off topic but kinda related question.

"Which would be even better in terms immersive game play, Star Trek Holodeck based gaming, or Virtual Reality gaming? Or, if you can't have it one way or another, what if the two concepts merged eh?

Im not quite sure what the difference is tbh, but at the minute im voting for the holodeck. Its just like a real life situation, you couldn't tell the difference between real and hologram.(if it ever got as good as on star trek).
My only experience with VR so far was in the 90's and i wasn't impressed

ah but with a holodeck you'll need to deal with the inevitable hologram uprising and win back your house by crawling under the floor boards.

also, holograms have an annoying habit of becoming real every now and then.

If we're going to following Star Trek Universe's "definition" of a holodeck, it only means that even if you'll play a game using the system the games will be based on "real life" physics. That means, you can't jump off from a 50 storey building & hope to live & tell about it, or even curl up into a ball & freely roll anywhere like Samus AAran as you please. Also, a holodeck can only project a fixed area of space so you really couldn't even generate such a structure at all. Ever noticed in the Star Trek shows where holodecks only show a specific room in a particular setting the initiator specifies.

With VR, you won't be limited by space constraints & seeing it's just videogaming to the next level, expect that you can defy physics with what you can do, especially if you are strapped into a VR Harness system.

Why can't they hurry up and invent mind-controlled gaming already!?

    Off-topc post:

Because Agent Smith is just waiting at the other end to take over the mind of whoever tries what you said to get at Neo.

    Relevant post:

Actually there are a few scientists & robotics engineers who are delving into that field of study.
