Well, Lately I've been doing well in school, but yesterday, I thought to my self, "Why are there so many useless classes in school?" Well, I basically thought of this mutual idea, one that I will long live, while in Steno class, or the way of short-hand through stenography, Do a little research on it, if you've never heard of it. Basically, this is a class that I will never use, I personally think that the Philippine government should enforce an elective choice class for all of these things. Basically, the school system here is 7-4:40, which is about nine hours, and fourty minutes, whihc means you must wake up at six, but you must arrive at school before 6:30. What I'm trying to explain is that the large amount of classes is basically stressing the youth of today, high-schoolers are shorter nowadays right? But before, they were all taller, but what I have noticed is: The lack of sleep, from the cramming of knowledge learned in one day is intense. My knowledge is getting bigger, but my body sure ain't. Take for example, my TLE/Health.Biology subjects, they both suggest that a child should sleep ten hours a day, while a teen needs the same amout of sleep, due to rapid growth, but the frequent test schedule makes that impossible, so basically what they are teaching us is what? Hippocritism? If a school has 16 subjects, and the schedule is forever changing, does that give them a right to derive sleep from us students, especially the slow learners? No, it doesnt! We all have a right to space out these stuff, especially with the Periodical exams, we need to have them twice only, a bigger test twice is better than studying for slightly smaller tests four times a year! Also, Why not have many practical classes, like in my home country America, PE right? No, over here, it isn't practical, it's a written test... It just proves the the school cannot manage time, with the teachers barely managing to reach the quota, in other words, cramming unil the end of the period, tearing apart out brains. Well, that isn't all, we all know that this si the Philippines, corrupted, place where politicians can become actors, and actors can become politicians, the place where the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer right? Some school's still influence that, the Pilot classes, they get smarter, and the other classes get dumber, but is that true if segregation is practiced? according to my school's visionerpetual Help the Fount of Truth (University of Perpetual Help System Dalta) We help everyone, based on today's truths, but the principal right? because of the JS prom, she forced all of highschool to attend classes on saturday. rather than elongating our vacation to four days, instead we have No school, school, noschool, noschool, that si poor time management. Even in the world, Filipinos have poor time management, and poor discipline, but does taht stop us from trying to improve ourselves? Yes...sadly. Us Filipinos are trying to improve, but it doesn't really work, my school, the JR. SSC, or teh Student Council, is corrupt...already, next year, I hope to run for president, abort the school range for running for president, which is fourth year ONLY, I will persuade the principal to let a THIRD YEAR run, but sadly, Here, tehy choose the most qualified, not the most suited, in other words, the good students. In my class, our mayor, is corrupt.. he barely deals with the problems surrounding us, but he maintains topgrades, but I am usually leader for group work, not him, and usually, my group get's top grades, but I only give out orders, not to those who excel in a certain possibility, I give it to those who seem like they can do it. And, teacher ratings, tehy take only the top 10 students in a grade, and tehy rate the teacher, but I think it should be the bottom ten, so that the teachers can know what they need to improve, you can't trust to students, because they will just suck up to the teacher. The teachers, alot are good, but they are very distracting, like the all of the "Chissmiss" or Gossip they talk about in the middle of classes, the teacher being Masungit, or emotion filled, badly, it's is a poor school system now. We need teacehrs sutied to the job, and trained to give out just a LITTLE discipline, after school, or what ever, because nowadays, in the Philippines, we do not have discipline, and the teachers are too scared to add that value into us, you know why? because they might get complains from parents, in other words, be fired. Sum it all up, even the educational system...Is corrupt. coming from an 84.78 average student, in the second year of University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, Molino, I am in the Pilot class, but I hate being in there, I am purposely going into a lower class next year, and prove that you don't need good teachers to be the best, the Pilot class teachers are chosen out of the best, but you don't need experience to learn, you need the willingness to learn.
So, what? You've planned a rant for some unpredictable event that hasn't happened yet? Yes, school is hard, get over it. Also, I've posted. Bam. Score one for the V-Dominator. :-*
I can't comment on the corruption of any one country's school system, it may indeed have too many hours per day or written exams for PE instead of excercise, however, some classes that people consider 'useless' are constructing a base for a future career path. Considering Winterreise's example, you may need to know the chemical makeup of naphthalene if you ever chose to be involved in chemistry. If not, it's just knowledge in the back of your head. I do agree that it would be better if such specialized classes like advanced chemistry were made into electives after a certain point in the education process. Maybe high school level, for example.
Damn, 7-4.40 is a killer timetable, my school, as horrible as it is only runs 8.30 whilst 2.30, just 6 hours of lessons a day. Mind you that is the only good thing about it, we used to have race riots at our school, oh how fun! Nowadays the commotion all comes down to dissallusioned teachers and fed up students, the SLT (senior leadershop team/heads of subects) keep altering our timetable and reorganising year groups. Yep, not content with reorganising what subjects people can do and when they are now intent on merging Years 9,10 and 11 (The GCSE years at our school) into one big group. Oh its brilliant.
I reckon Nelson College's health class is useless.. I mean we watched videos and spent many periods on how to make friends and how to greet people.. At least we watched some movies :
There are so many classes in school that are useless. I was always told not to play video games. To pay attention in school. In all honesty, I've learned more playing videogames, than I've ever learned in any class.
Yup, I agree about that, especially in war-related games, where you experience very job, like a medic... I forgot the game, but in health it's so boring...but it is helpful, and When am I going to seriously use steno? Imagine, a person walks up to you, and holds up a gun asking: Translate this, or you're dead! and of course... It'd be in steno
I think that there are a few useless clases in school... and honestly, I think that they should cut one of these useless classes and institute a mandatory Common Sense class. Too many people have no common sense... ...and they should also teach basic skills like fixing lighbulbs/microwaves/etc, and other useful skills. ...It Would help a lot of people.
I'm glad to say we have one of the est education systems in the world... One critiscism I would have is the focus on the Arts and Humanities... Some subject to do with computers would have been handy....
I agree that a common sense class really would help a lot of people. Maybe there should be a class to learn about basic knowledge of the world.
That's under TLE in my subject.. but it doesn't really help anyone... goat raising, food budget, how to read a series circuit, complex/parallel, and how to light a lightbulb... with 2 batteries, as you can see some are handy. and some...aren't
*agreed* At my school Islamic Calligraphy and English Conversation are "required" extra classes. I can't think of any use for the former outside of art, (which I suck at) ???. I have midterms in a week... Back to the books...
Well, another thing i'd like to add, you've heard of the term Brain Drain correct? Well, in my school its like that, the smart get smarter, the dumb get dumber, all because all the smart people are in one class, namely the Pilot section, whcih I'm in, but I'm purposely (Barely making it out of pilot, with 84.99 o n purpose) so I don't go to pilot, and prove that statement..and I don't want to do all taht Co-Cur...
The term brain drain in Britain means all the people that receive a high standard of education and training can move abroad for better wages and lower cost of living, this is especially true for those working in the NHS here. Common sense, I don't think that you can teach people common sense, you either have it or you don't... Many people don't
Same here, brain drain refers to the exodus of well trained professionals, like Medical practitioners, Engineers, teachers etcetera, who choose to work abroad instead of working for their countrymen who desperately needs them more. And for what? Money! Because of the bad choices of corrupt politicians the country became so poor that people are actually wanting to pay good ridance to their motherland :'(
Well yeah if I had a good career, felt that I was being unappreciated, didn't have any big ties to my country then I would move for the money. An extra few thousand pound a year combined with living in America, which is presumably cheaper than here in the UK, equates to a huge gross wage increase. EDIT: Australia is quite good at taking our nurses
