SATA is hotswap capable (meaning drives can be added or removed without powering down the system), so it shows up in the 'safely remove hardware' list. if you go into the drive properties, then hardware, select the drive and click properties, the 'policies' tab will probably be set to 'optimise for quick removal'. Change that to 'optimise for performance', and make sure 'enable write caching' is ticked if it shows. Other than that, its normal behaviour.

So which one is good? optimize for quick removal or optimize for performance, btw i'm using xp sp3.

'performance' is better for fixed hard drives.

Loony, there is a warning that said, " This setting enable write caching to improve disk performance, but a power outrage or equipment failure might result in data loss or corruption. " It's that ok?

What's with the cumulative quadruple post?

Double posting is against the Forum Rules, so use the Modify button at the top right of the post to add to your original post.

The setting basically makes the hard drive not hot-swappable, so that issue is inevitable and usually would not be a problem unless you really mess up your computer. Basically, don't mind the warning.

Yeah what B2K said, the warning doesn't really matter.

Sorry for that everytime i hit the enter button it post the text i write but it stay in the post reply section.
Back to the topic, okay when i tried what loony said with the PC, it was already in the optimize performance and i didn't change anything so my HardDrives still on safe remove properties. I'm using Amd Phenom and XP SP3, it's still a same procedure right?

So i tried what you told me loony and it's still the same, no change at all. About that warning, i tried it in my office PC, but the problem is with my home PC and when i got home and do what you told me, it wasn't the same at all, it got no warning at all. Just two option Quick removal and best performance. And it was already in best performance but it's still appear as a removable drive.

This may be a stupid question, but is your hard drive internal or external?
