Sarcasm and you

Why is it when I am serious, it's viewed as sarcastic, and when I am sarcastic, it's viewed as absolute truth.

Do I have to start using the [Sarcasm] You suck donkey anus [/Sarcasm] tags?

I talked to my cousin on the phone, and he told me his GF liked me when we me, so I responded, "She liked me more from the front yesterday". Well he flew off and called me a player, a man whore, and even asked his GF if we 'did it' and if she wanted to do it with me.
She said yes, and they broke up, and now he hates me due to an errant comment.

I expect women to misconstrue what I say, but since when did guys start in on this trend it seems?

Weigh in with your own brand of sarcasm, and possibly some valid points too.

It seems that everything is a joke now, and when you try and joke back(you, referring to myself) you're seen as being serious.

Anyone ever heard of taking things at face value?

I know this could be a rant, but I assume others have fallen victim to this trend as of late, so please weigh in and give examples if you could, as it could help me out.
I'll eventually get my cousin to come around, but I'd hate for someone to truly believe what I say when I am just goofing with them, as that ends up bad for ol' Dedboy.

There are times I do mean what I say, and the people that truly know that, know me well enough to understand that statement.

So the point is: How can you differentiate between sarcasm and seriousness?

    Thank you.

I hate it when they use sarcasm as a joke in shows that are supposedly funny.

I like sarcasm. It seems I don't make it obvious enough. It's funny, really.
I need sarcasm tags in real life too.....

2DamCerius My eyes for your brain...fair trade.

Just look at my user name people get the feeling of NOT taking me seriously AT ALL.

But if you were to meet me in real life, I DO look serious. My eyebrows seem to go down in between my eyes. Well I find that kind of funny, but I am a kind person if you get to know more about me.

With that said sarcasm can only be used based on the situation you are in. In most cases it would go well with an "ice breaker" approach to help ease the tension on both sides of the equation. It comes down to whether the argument has reached its climax and some one just has to turn down the heat a little. (Ironically enough sarcasm has the opposite effect----it makes situations more intense)

So use your words wisely-----think how to think...???????

Bro option: Don't touch it, bros are eternal
    I-don't-give-a-shit option: Slay her

Sarcasm's one of those things that are hard to detect unless (and sometimes while) you're face-to-face with someone, engaging in what is known as "rich" communication. Normally when delivering jibes about wives/fiancees/girlfriends/sisters/mothers we try to make it apparent that it's some sort of burn (usually through gratuitous use of "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh snap") but generally these sorts of remarks are widely assumed to be jokes anyway. Sounds like your cousin was having some doubts about his relationship anyway, if he had to ask.

That said, what you pulled was kind of a dick move. Takes some stones to tell a bro that your girlfriend was into him for a while, you don't want to have some sort of implication of infidelity (joke or not) shot back at you.

The girlfriend was a bitch anyways, if she would say yes to either of those, she didn't really like him anyways. Unless I'm not understanding it.

Also, sarcasm is easier to detect when you know the person, ie, Suis, Littlekill, Uber, and you all know when I'm sarcastic or joking (or trolling). And vice versa.

I also find it extremely difficult to say 'just joking' after a non serious comment as I find it funnier without, it's like explaining a joke to someone, once you explain it, it's no longer funny. Or maybe I'm just stubborn, or it could be a combination.

All of you monsters on here know all too well how easily I fall for your sarcastic post on various threads so uh yeah, please teach me how to determine if someone is being sarcastic or not :(

At least with Nat, suis & LK I've learned that I should re read comments you guys make several times before I conclude if you're being sarcastic or not.

As odd as this seems, and it's quite odd. Some of them might have the littlest iota of respect for me.
That or they want to see me fall flat on my face and then be here to rub in in when she tells me she's been having morning sickness for the past ten days :/
