    Good morning romulation,

I must admit that initially I was hesitatant about joining this site, thinking (mistakenly) that I would be a lone figure amidst a sea of clued-up tecchie talking kids/teenagers. How wrong was I? I am a mum of a 9yr old and will be hitting the big 4-0 later this year (less said about that the better) and was so pleased/relieved to find there are plenty of parents here already.

My main reason for joining the site is to find out more about the DS lite that my son owns. At his request we have bought him an R4 card for his 10th birthday which is next week. Of course he had no idea how it worked, or how to use it, but his friend had one and it had so many brilliant games on it he really needed one or he would just die :'(- apparantly. So it falls to Mum to sort it out - well I couldn't have him keeling over on me could I?

I found an excellent how-to video on youtube, which is also where I got the recommendation for this site. And I must say, I'm quite pleased with myself - although I'm fairly well aquainted now with my PC, I know absolutely nothing about the DS, and yet I've managed to successfully install, the necessary software and a couple of games and all in secret! However, I'm bound to come a cropper sooner or later so joining this site will be invaluable.

I myself enjoy playing games on my PC, particularly word games and strategy/ adventure games. I'm a big fan (dare I admit it, at my age) of the Nancy Drew games. But my son had better watch out, with all the ROM's on here, I just might end up pinching his DS off him! ;D

    Ooh sorry. My name's Aimee.

And in answer to the question, 'what sort of parent am I? from Usoppu,

I tend to swing from just mildly harassed to mentally tortured - it's so rewarding being a Mum! ;)

Thank you for all the warm welcomes.

Hey welcome to the forum Aimee :)

It's so much fun to read about parents getting games for their kids who are themselves also gamers. My mom used to be like that when I was young back in the 80's ;D

Back in the '80's eh? Hours of fun playing Manic Miner on the ZX Spectrum! And before that, Tennis on the Grandstand plug-in for the Atari. Thank goodness we have moved on. Though I'm not sure I'd consider myself as a 'gamer' by any means. I can just about limp round Luigi's circuit on Mario Kart Wii but wouldn't have a clue what to do with a Pokemon if I caught one (despite an endless running commentary from my son).

No? Maybe you're just a games enthusiast or just someone fascinated with games, either way it's good that you spend time playing with your son on his games :)

And actually I started gaming on a FamiCom which is the Japanese counterpart of the NES & by then there were plenty of memorable titles as well.
