    Heyy :)

So i've been playing Lunar: Silver Star Story on my PSP and i got to the point where i had to change discs, therefore i hit my "Home" button, selected switch disks, disc 2 and waited. Here's where my problems begin; it hung on a black screen and refused to continue and since then the game won't actually boot from the memory stick. Instead it now gets to the "playstation" screen and hangs.

My set up at the moment is a PSP FFVII Anniversary slim edition with M33 Custom Firmware - Not exactly sure on the version, it was what came with my pandora's battery. I've been running CFW for a long time without problems and this is bugging me.

Any ideas, thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated as i'm at a loss really. Thanks in advance guys/girls alike :D

Edit - Apologies, i feel like a fool. The save data is totally separate, so i'll just try deleting the EBOOT and putting it back on and see. Again, apologies.

Edit 2 - Have just tried putting the game back on and it still hangs at the Playstation screen.

You can find out what version of M33 you are using by going into:

Settings -> System Settings -> System Info
It will say something like "5.00 M33-6"

You should probably update to the latest M33 if you aren't already there
It's very easy to do, here is the files and a small tutorial
    http://dl.qj.net/CFW-5.00-M33-6-PSP/pg/12/fid/25689/catid/114

Once updated to the latest, you should look into getting popsloader, here are the files and a tutorial

From the sounds of their initial post, they already have popsloader, plus the game itself worked when running the "1st disc" files from the eboot, so this could either be a corrupted eboot or like the above post stated, you my need to update your firmware as some psx eboots require specific popsloader versions (which will be promted to choose from when you first start up a psx eboot) in order to fun properly.

the compatibility list suggests the best popsloader versions to use are 3.90 and 4.01 for the multidisc eboot, but there are issues running the 2nd disc with the 5.00m33-6 popsloader version, so try changing the version used from the list.

If this doesn't fix your problem, reply here and i will see if i can make you a working multidisc version sometime between today and tomorrow.

Thank you for the responses guys. And even more so that you've provided the links i need, i'll check the firmware version now and update accordingly. And about Popsloader... i really don't remember installing it when i put my CFW on.

I did however install devhook if that helps? Anyway, i'll update and get the new popsloader and see if that works. Again, much obliged :)

if you followed a guide when installing your CFW, you may have been told to install it without knowing, but the way you described the method of switching discs makes me think you have. But anyways good luck, i will have my fingers crossed for you :)

I don't believe he has popsloader already installed. Most guides for installing custom firmware do not include that. The multi-disc eboot disc change could have already been on his pops that was in the flash, I believe 4.01's pops has the dischange, so if he was running 4.01 CFW then his pops would have that feature by default.

try using a different version of pops, hold r when the game is starting and select 3.71, it usually works.

    Only once popsloader is installed.

he has popsloader, he wouldn't have been able to load the game without it, unless i'm mistaken.

You are mistaken. You can play PSX games without popsloader. popsloader only lets you choose a pops version from an earlier version of the firmware. So if you are running 5.00, you can choose 3.71, 3.90 or 4.01, etc. Without popsloader you are stuck using the version of pops from your current firmware.

Updating to 5.00 now, i had 4.01 running. As i said before i dont recall installing popsloader and my guide told me to install the CFW and devhook, nothing else as far i know anyway. Once i have updated i'm gonna hit the hay, then continue in the morning.

The only other things i had on was CWCheats in my plugins and from what i understand if i had popsloader it should show there. And seeing how it doesn't at the moment i presume i dont have it installed :D

Thanks for the responses and help thus far and i will update in the morning :)

yea, TirithRR is right, i was getting confused (i should go to sleep more) and yes if you had popsloader installed it would display in the plugins section of the recovery menu (when you do install it, make sure it is enabled from that menu, allthough i cant see why it wouldn't be, but it can't hurt to double check :) )

Even so, the above post still remains important as there have been some issues with the 5.00m33-6 verison running lunar silver story so as stated above hold R when starting the eboot and select 3.90 or 4.01 from the list and everything should be working smoothly.

Alrighty i'll keep it in mind, just gonna put on popsloader now and will approach it that way. Will say how it goes :D

Edit - So i've now installed Popsloader 5 and made sure its all working correctly, it now show's in my plugins and is indeed enabled. However i'm still hanging at the playstation screen, i'm beginning to think maybe its the eboot's problem so i'll try Marvel Vs Capcom and see. Will edit again when done.

Edit 2 - Just come to the conclusion my eboot is stuck in disc 2 mode and refuses to work. When i press home when the screen is hung it appears to be on disc 2 yet won't let me change due to there being no prompt from the game. So maybe the eboot is just corrupt?

just to clarify, what pops version did you choose from the list that appear upon starting the eboot?

(remember you can hold R when starting the eboot to get access to the list again and choose a different version)

If it is the case that you have chosen 3.90 or 4.01 and it is hanging, then the majoriy of signs are pointing towards a corrupted eboot.

That's another thing, i hold R and am given no option, instead it just boots as normal. So i'm really getting annoyed, i'd try another eboot but its taking a while and won't finish for an hour yet so i spose i'll have to hold out and wait :-\ :)

It doesn't do that by default-you need the pop's loader plugin-and it needs to be turned on...

You will have to google that-or look at quick jump downloads (qj.net)

I've looked around installed popsloader god knows how many times following various guides and info. And its always the same my plugins look like this -

    cwcheat.prx [GAME] (Enabled)
    popsloader.prx 1 [POPS] (Enabled)
    cwcheat.prx [GAME150] (Enabled)

If i'm missing another plugin could you point me in the right direction. I looked around qj.net and found the same as i already have installed. Nothing else seems apparent

Edit - Tried a different eboot and had the same issue of it hanging. So i can rule out the faulty Eboot i think.

Make sure you are holding R before starting the eboot, then keep holding past the startup information screen and the version selection should appear after the initil message.

(just tried it with a-train, awful game, with a variety of timed R presses, and holding R from the start is the best way to ensure you get access to the menu.)

Ahhhh just tried what you suggested and it still refuses to work. It plays a screen that talks about the psp etc then when it switches to the old school playstation screen it just stops. :-\
