RomUlation: Please don't treat us like idiots.

I'm aware that there are a lot of children at RomUlation.

But I really don't want to read messages like these from RomUlation:

Simply ban people that act against the rules or leave bad comments, but pease don't annoy your "normal custumers" with that stuff.

We are annoyed by bad comments or bad behaviour just as you are. Maybe you're not aware of it, but there are quite a few cultivated people here.

Anyway: Thanks for the great service, I like the reteo-games (GB/GBC) the most, you have so much different versions of these games, it's fantastic! <3

Wait, are you complaining about the warning?

People need to know that when they do that it's a bad thing to do that warrants a ban. Without it, how would you know that you can get banned for it? Leeching is an offense and some people don't see it.

It's not even annoying it's just under the links, no big deal.

Oh yeah, there's more idiots than cultivated users, I'm sure of this.

Yes. But it's not the first time that we get such warnings, we had these under the comments in red a few days ago. I wouln't complain if I wouldn't care about RomUlation...

I'm aware of this, but it's still unfair to treat everybody like an idiot. Maybe that has to do with different cultural backgrounds, but I am personally really annoyed by statements like these (and the previous ones about the comment rules).

RomUlation could simply provide a FAQ for wanted / unwanted behaviour and ban everybody that acts against it. That would be easy and fair, I guess.

And please excuse my english, I'm a foreigner.... ::)

    Wait...
You are annoyed because the download page warns you not to share the link?

Seph can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the system that flags sharing is nearly automatic. So a small warning on the download page is a good thing to have.

And there is a FAQ and Rules page already.

I believe the ban is automatic once someone else uses the link, therefore it's good to know of a possible ban. I've seen users do it on accident. The warnings wouldn't be everywhere if people weren't violating the rule so often. It's not a nag, it's a reminder. Good info to know.

without such a thing, people will just continue doing. Just because some people get banned by accident because some dolt didn't read the rules, doesn't mean they should be adjusted.

You're welcome to come up with a reliable method to only show it to those people who needs to see it. Personally I think it's impossible to do, and while we may annoy a few people who provide good comments and don't share their download links then we also manage to save ourselves some bandwidth by telling people that sharing will get you banned.

We do have that, it's called an introduction guide, and less than 0.0001% of visitors have read it. I understand where you're coming from, I really do, but I can't just design the site for those users who like to know what's going on, the far majority of the users scan pages only and spend as little time as possible on the page, so that's why we need the comment rules just above the comment box, and that's why we sometimes need a big red warning because people ignore those rules. (and amazingly enough, also the big red warning)

Thanks for your note, I got your point.

I just had the impression yesterday: I'm entering a nice museum; and I'm annoyed by a huge sign stating "Please don't pee on the floor" - and people that actually pee on the floor... :p

Ah the old idiot proof signs that fail.

It happens all to often-all people can do is put a sign and hope it works-if not they have reason to jump at them.

That's an extreme example of something that is socially unacceptable and rarely done being posted as a rule.

Instead, how about signs in an Art Exhibit that say "Do not Touch". They exist, and are in quite a few exhibits. Touching a sculpture or painting may be something that someone feels is OK to do and do at other exhibits, but the exhibit does not want it to happen.

People share URLs all the time, it's how the internet community works. This warning lets people know that these URLs are privately generated URLs for the exclusive use of the user in question.
