well it's finally here, a screenshot of our beloved RomUlation running in IE8 on Windows 7!

In all honesty, I have yet to be impressed by Windows 7. The claim of installing in under 10 minutes turned out to be complete hogwash as usual, it took 57 minutes to install and 1hr 8 minutes until it reached the desktop, which isn't really much faster than an XP install. Additionally, it uses 8GB of disk for a bare install, compared to my Windows 2003 install taking up 5.6GB including all my programs and updates. The interface is admittedly less cluttered than Windows vista, which is an improvement.

I think i'll stay with Vista...
I actually enjoy vista as it's simple and basic enough for me, plus it looks better than Windows 7

And... Firefox kicks IE's cookie filled anus...

I'll stick to XP for now. When I get a new computer, I might consider Windows 7. That thing is still in beta, isn't it?

For me everything that worked after a Windows XP install works in Windows 7 (driver-wise). In almost all cases, Vista drivers are working.

A thing I liked was the lack of Windows Live features. No Messenger, no Outlook, no Silverlight, no Movie Maker, no Gadgets. They are available through downloads. Windows Media Player is included, but I haven't tested it yet (something with MP3 bug). Also, you can change your taskbar like it looked in xp (with quick start, and the items spread out).

My current problem is that there's no working cd/dvd emulation software yet, so installation of some (yes, legal) applications isn't going well.

Yeah that statement was false. Never heard of any install being within that amount of time. cjdogger, they pretty much look the same nearly.

I may have changed my settings when I first got my laptop actually... :-\ I can't quite remember...

Well, if you consider the amount of data being pumped to the new partition, you can say that the installation speed has increased significantly.

Why does Windows 7 Basic look so awful? It's exactly the same as Vista. Have the right graphics card and it's beautiful, have the wrong one and it looks like sh*t. Thumbnail previews are disabled too! However, it did install faster and boot up faster than Vista. Unfortunately, performance wise, it's still nowhere near as good as XP.

When you said RomUlation on Windows 7 + IE8, I was expecting a mutilated glob of standards noncompliance on the screen. At least I can see that when running the Acid3 test. Apparently, Microsoft has stated that they have no intention of significantly improving standards compliance in IE8.

Huh? They have said no such thing. IE8 will be A LOT more standards compliant than IE7, what they have said is that they will do a "compatibility mode" where it will emulate the way the older browsers renders pages for cases where the code is so horrible a standards compliant browser cannot render it. This mode will be turned off by default.

I've just installed the Windows 7 beta yesterday. I like what I'm seeing, but I can't help but notice it's just Vista under a different skin. Here is Romulation on Firefox in Windows 7.

It's running quite smooth on my crappy laptop. Pentium Dual Core 1.6 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 128 MB SiS video card. :D

Wow the taskbar looks just like Mac OS X now with the icons and I bet when you go over them they show you the name of it, correct? xD

Wrong in two places. The first computer with a mouse was the Xerox Alto. The first Apple Computer with a mouse was the Apple Lisa. Apple copied Xerox's GUI idea as well. ::)
