RomUlation gave my a virus (sorry if it's in the wrong board)

When I went to the homepage of RomUlation, the "RomUlation is brought to you by:" page came up. It didn't load. Rather, Internet Explorer showed that it loaded about 33 files. My anti-virus detected 3 viruses. Also, I couldn't close out of Internet Explorer. I had to use Windows task manager. Even that took a long time to get it to close. Any idea why this happened? I'm not sure I trust going on the homepage now :-\

EDIT: This has happened twice. I forgot about the first time, which happened earlier this month.

Quick question, why were you using internet explorer?

That's the browser I like best. (Sad, I know.)

Use Firefox or IE7Pro, and a AD Blocker if you get this problem again.
Its probably not Romulation itself but one of the ads, probably trying to open a java window or something stupid like that.

give us as much detail about the ad as you can, and we will report it.

Also there is no reason to use internet explorer. it is insecure and broken, use firefox with an IE theme.

Damnit stop telling people which browser to use, it's personal preference and if people like IE7 best then they'll use that.

It's important to note that while a virus might have been added to your temporary internet files it can't actually be executed unless your version of IE is outdated and insecure, it's not enough that it's simply on the computer, it needs to be run too.

Also give us more details, there's no way I can report the ad when I don't know which one it is...

He never said he was using IE 7. He said IE, and the behavior sounds more like IE6 than 7

^ is it not likely that one of your ads used a cookie that his AV picked up as a bad cookie and filed under virus? it may have been nothing to worry about.

however, it's best to prevent it than prove it.

Sorry for the late reply. It's Internet Explorer 7, yes. And now I feel stupid. I don't know which ad it was.

EDIT: Actually, it was no ad. It just loaded a white screen. That's when my anti-virus said it found 3 viruses.

It's not impossible to embed a virus into a HTML page such that a website would pick it up, however, the chance of it getting executed are minor.

I got a virus when I downloaded a weird unknown file and double clicked on the .exe file.

    Isn't that weird? ::)

    I'm joking, m-kay.

Ok, my computer isn't acting up, so they didn't execute. Thanks for the help.

My case is worse,i went to my homepage and then got a screen that said a virus that threatens your computer was found and said something about scanning then showed me a window with scanning but what was strange is that it showed windows XP while I had vista i did a scan with many AVs but nothing was found it turned out to be an add to get you to download an av.

I call those the idiot catchers. As in, if you're dumb enough to download their antivirus, you should get off of my Internets.

the proper term is 'scareware'. More than likely the so-called antivirus is itself a virus or trojan.
