So inspired by a question in the know your members section I figured I should try to look into when the actual birthday of RomUlation was and document it here for future reference should I ever forget. To figure out what the birthday is I had to decide when I wanted to start counting, as there are essentially three dates that can be considered the birthday of RomUlation, and to explain them requires a little history lesson. Did you know that RomUlation (me) actually started out as an uploader for the ROM section of a site called 9xdownloadz run by the RomUlation member nomercy? (The ROM section at first and later on the entire site) Initially the uploader would say my screenname (nofear at the time) and later on when RomUlation was up it would say RomUlation with a link. (good guy nomercy!) In 2002 I launched the very first version of RomUlation, initially she was a html-only version with no backend code and each upload painfully added in by hand. Back then I did not have the romulation.net domain and I used to host under one of those free domains like .vze.com or .tk. But on August 13th 2003 I went ahead and bought romulation.net and hosted her under that instead. So that means there are essentially the following choices. The day I started uploading ROMs The day I first used the RomUlation name The day I bought the RomUlation.net domain Now, I'll be honest, I have no clue about the first two dates. I know they were sometime in 2002 but I can't really tell when and chances of me finding out are slim to none, mean while I know the exact date of purchasing RomUlation.net. So while it's not the very first day of the RomUlation name being used I think it qualifies as a good choice. This also means that next year is the 10th anniversary of RomUlation (holy fuck) and we'll have to celebrate that in style, somehow. (ideas welcome!) Sadly it also means that I just missed celebrating her 9th birthday but I'm sure I can make it up to my baby with a bit of tender love to the front page.
I'd really go with the 3rd choice, the 2nd would be also another good option if you would find out the date. I think you should still go with option 3 since that is when Romulation started getting really big (At least I think). And I also think that it the better option since most people are way more familiar with Romulation.net than with .vze.com or whatever. I mean you could always leave a little sidenote for everybody that lets them know that you were actually around for a longer time.
Well i suppose it should go by what's more important to you as creator/Parent: The birth of the site itself (#3) or The birth of Romulation itself (#2)
Just to clarify, I'm perfectly capable of deciding what date to use myself, I already know I'm going with the date the domain was registered. When I said ideas welcome I was referring to celebration ideas.
Make a new theme for the site (like the Christmas one except around the 'big 10'). Open up the premium servers for 24 hours on the day to all non-premium members. Host a new system! (happy to help with this one) Host a bucketload of new anime! Host porn!
Finally getting a forum theme might actually be a good idea. I don't think the site theme will change majorly, maybe a new logo for the occasion or something.
Host a celebration party on skype with hot girls singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROMUUUUUUUUU open up the premium servers (that might crash the servers though) give away premium as a gift to contributing members Make a premium bundle like sales 50% off or something for limited time/amount of premium accounts ^ for example 5 months for the price of 3 and stuff like that host next gen games in turtleshare. that would require trusted uploaders and people that would actually spent time on that project which means people with decent upload speed or even remote desktops so they can upload i would do it myself but meh i donthave that much of time lately anyway 10th aniversary. 6th for me next year <3 ROMU
So is RomUlation's birthday the registration of the domain or Littlekill's join date? Haha. Anyways, I think we're all used to the forum code by now. It's been like this for so long already. But it might be a nice change? Some people (like me) might get lost in the new navigation.
