I downloaded about eight games from here and when I copy them to the memory stick they triple in size. I downloaded Castlevania right now and it said the file size is 25 mb, but when I copied it on the mem. stick it was 64. What are some good sites to trim the roms. Also, I want to know what that actually does besides making the file smaller such as affecting visuals and gameplay. I have a Mac if that matters. Thank you.
we compress our roms, which makes them smaller; but without affecting the game in any way. Unfortunately, they cannot be played in their compressed form, they must be uncompressed first.
Just like to point something out here. You can't play them on an actual device in compressed format, but certain emulators on the computer (or PPC for that matter) are able to play .zip and .rar files containing a ROM.
There are tools that are able to strip ROMs of extra unused data. Google around for a ROM trimmer, I can't remember the name of it.
heres a good one, its the latest one and i believe if you use it on your roms it enables download play. also, its from the R4 website so you know its legit 8)
http://www.r4ds.com/soft/1-other-en.htm theres the site, sorry about my last post. guess i left it out
the ROMS are compressed when you download them, but when theyre unzipped/extracted they get bigger than they actually are because DS carts come in 16,32, 64, 128 etc. etc. so if your game is 20 MB, its going to appear as 32. i use the rom trimmer that came with my R4, so i would think you can download it off their homepage
why rom trim ??? what card do u have. i run a r4 with 1gb card and i average about 20-25 games on my card without trimming.
I use a 1 gb. memory card and I can only put about 10 games on it. I have Final Fantasy which is 128 mb. all by itself. I am going to try to trim them.
