Would anyone who knows how to rip movies like to help?

Now, using dvd dycrypter, I've made a few rips, and using ps3 video 9, I've managed to compress them and work them on my ps3 (works fine on pc as well-from 5gb to 2gb most :) ) but one movie has given me hell...

Alie vs predator, it has 3 cells (I choose just one) and with the resulting VOB file, it plays fine...but at 5gb I don't want that...

But when converted, the file is 178mb worth of audio and a grey screen!

I find this odd since avp2 was a straight rip...anyone like to help?

Magic DVD Ripper is a very nice ripper.

DVDFab does a pretty good job as well.

Or you can rip the vob file into a single file with DVDShrink, then convert that with your favorite encoder.

    Hrm...I heard of those...

But what I don't get, is dvd dycrpter does a fine VOB file, plays fine, it's after conversion with ps3 video 9 (which compresses it) that I loose video, but retain audio...

It's the only one to give me trouble.

    Weird.

Have you tried a different encoder?

Youtube downloader has really good video and audio after conversion.

    ...how does that work exactly?

Remember, I'm using VOB files, not youtube links (the red kawa range has converters for everything, psp, ps3, ipod and mine came with a youtube downloader...converts vids only from youtube though)

    No.

    It converts anything.
I use it all the time to convert vob movies.

It is a youtube video downloader, but also has an option for encoding video.
    Even vob.

Depending on what quality you want, the files are usually relatively large.
    Larger than 700mbs.
