I'm sure there are many threads on the web about this, but I trust RomU more so I'm gonna ask you.

I have some videos which I wish to enlarge to cover more of my computer screen. I do not want to lose the sound and picture quality when I enlarge them.
Is there such a program which can do it for me...?

The data for the videos are as follows:

    Green Lantern
    Code:

    Any help is appreciated.

    Ok. Thanks.
Can I resize it greatly but only losing a bit of quality.
Surely there is a program which can do it...

You cannot resize without loss of quality. Any processing of video or audio files results in loss of quality. Increasing resolution is a HUGE no-no because you are going to drastically lose quality. You can't create something from nothing.

    Loonylion Administrator Staff Member

no. increasing resolution = adding more pixels. The software has no way of knowing what those pixels should be, so it has to guess. you're trying to make something when there was nothing there originally. the more you increase the resolution, the worse the quality gets exponentially. You quickly end up with 8bit like graphics.

I guess you could call it upscaling, but that just results in a larger file size with no increase in quality.

The best thing you can do is get a 1080p/720p rip and downsize it to whatever quality you want.

Usually, I have an issue with video dimensions being too large (like on my iPhone 4), never being too small.

it is upscaling, yes. it causes quality loss, and more upscaling results in more loss

Makes me wonder why they even bothered with "upscaled playback" on DVD players...

So absolutely no way to resize without loss of quality? Or just losing a bit...?

I don't get why he doesn't fullscreen it in his video player, or failing that, he could always download a better quality torrent.

  13. Loonylion

    Loonylion Administrator Staff Member

thats still upscaling and the quality will be reduced. The original file wont be affected though.

  14. Niflheim

    Niflheim Horrible evil rat

Well yeah, but it's not much hassle and the quality loss would be negligible.

  15. Loonylion

depends how much its upscaled by.

    read this tutorial dude
and use CRF (RF on video tabs) 20 or less for good quality
    https://sites.google.com/site/taumox/handbrake-tutorial

but if u use source height from 500pixel and wanna increase it or enlarge it your encode will look so bad
so it be better u search good sources
ex: 1080p BDrip then u can encode it to 720p and decrease it size and decrease it quality abit

    Wait, what?

It's so DVD players aren't stuck in SD or 480i/p. I'd rather they upscale DVDs to 720p or 1080p then stay in their terrible 480i/p resolution.

It decreases quality but the convenience of having it cover the screen makes up for it.

Also I found a decent amount of seeds on BDrips onisohunt if it's any help.
