I'm running psxfin, I've mounted the Resident Evil Survivor.mdf w/ daemon tool, and went to
    File>Insert CD Drive
    and selected the entire drive.

PSXfin then errors out, and tells me to close it.

    I've read this topic: https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,11297.0.html
but shouldn't this work w/ daemon though?

    Hi,

Have you checked their (pSX emulator's) forums? (By the way, for those that are wondering what psxfin.exe is, it's the main executable file for the pSX emulator found here).

Their forums are located here. Try digging through their forum. Also, to my knowledge, ePSXe broke support for third-party CDR Plugins for 1.7.0; whether this effects emulating certain game(s) when people mount games on virtual Daemon drives, I'm uncertain. The thread from the ePSXe forums is here.

As a workaround, you might want to convert the .mdf (Alcohol 120% CD image file extension) file to a different format, like an .iso or a .bin/.cue.

Post results if successful/unsuccessful; the board may need further info if more help is needed (ie file size, to the byte, of the .mdf file in question).

    Hope that helps.

I checked it, and searched .mdf, but nothing comes up =\

I'll give converting into a .iso or .bin a try.
As for the the cd file itself, i got it from our site.
The .rar came w/ two files:

    the .mdf is 406mb
    the .mds is 486 bytes

    =\

Oh, and when i go to File>Insert CD Image it just gives me a really messed up screen: [IMG]

Yeah... I also converted it to a .iso, but it gives me the same result.
Should i re dl the game?

have you try to play another game with it?
    try it with another emllator....
or try another image drive...like alcohol..for mounting the image....
if not...just load it straight......(if the emu support the mdf extension ;D )

^ Either way he now has/is able to make another .iso image of the .mdf which will open directly with just about any psx emulator, there shouldnt be need for mounting.

    Hi,

Resident Evil: Survivor is apparently a copy protected game (like Final Fantasy IX PAL version). You might need to make sure that the original rip of the game was done properly. However, seeing as it was ripped to a .mdf file, it indicates that it was...I really can't determine that though without being there and testing it.

There is a workaround, but it's a little old school (I did this *all* the time back in the day). I can't tell you where to find this stuff, because of board rules; but I can tell you what you'll need.

You'll need to find the relevant .ppf patch for your particular version of the game (US NTSC, EURO PAL, etc). You'll then need to patch the .ppf to the .bin of your game image using CDRWin. Yup, CDRWin, that's how far back I'm going. Other burning softwares (ie Magic ISO, Power ISO etc) might be able to convert the image you have to a .cue/.bin format, but I wouldn't know. You'll also likely need the PPF Patch Engine program (or PPF-O-Matic) to apply the patch to the image. You may need further instructions on how to patch it, however if you find the site that I'm thinking of (quite popular back in the day...), it will have a repository of working links & instructions.

Try that if you're willing to go the extra mile. I believe that your game image might not have the protection defeated, hence the anti piracy screen you see when you try to play it off your emulator. Alternatively, you *might* want to download that game from Romulation, who (as far as I know) have a working copy; you will need to use up a chunk of your download points, though.

    Hope this helps.
