Hi, i was thinking that maybe romulation needs to have some sort of reputation system as when the user did something good at the forum, there is a button to "like" and if the user is annoying, there is a button "dislike"? I do not know if this suggestion has been talk about before and i am sorry if it is post in the wrong topic ;D

They had this before, it's the karma system as it's called.

It was taken off...many reasons as to why it was (I forgot the exact reason).

I know that the regulars including myself (not as much as the irc legends though) would get massive ratings from friends as you could spam it.

And like the old post rank system...it's not the best idea...

I'd rather it off, that way, everyone is treated like everyone else, fair and equal, no royal treatment, no put downs just because people dislike your sports team and spam you to negative 9000.

I usually find these "Karma"/"Reputation" systems to be more useful on forums that are souly based on providing download links on forums. That way the uploader of a certain downloadable file can be trusted or not.

So it's kinda the same reason as to why the Post Rank System was taken off?

    Hmm.

That works...infact....in that light it could be good...

Problem is considering the traffic we get here and some of what i seen and heard, I myself can spam my karma (or a friend depending on how shifty I am) and upload viruses to people thinking I'm safe.

Another idea that I know won't happen is to just vote people to be put into a new group called "safe uploader" so those uploading games we know and (prehaps :p) love that upload ds games and fixes can be trusted.

Sure, people could suspect the new guy or the local troll with a high karma rank despite his known rep to be full of it, but what about the new person who just joined and DOESN'T read the rest of the post and downloads away?

I have this mind set, thus I can tell how and what COULD happen...

wasn't this the meaning of the ranking?

Ranking was based purely on post count, not the quality or helpfulness of the posts.

The problem with Reputation or Rating systems is they are abused by the user base, people who are truly helpful or good posters can/will be downed and those that spam, etc can/will be upped. Just based on who they are friends with in the community, and not based on how they actually post.

We had this early on but only admins could change it and some people complained that they were being ignored or something. Just decided to scrap it altogether.

Not likely to change their minds but I've been wrong before.

After a deep thought, i came up with 1 more anti abuse suggestion ;D The idea is for the admins or forum moderators to give an award, medal or something similiar to those who they think is fit for the award ;D Lets say Kiekoes create a thread to have the latest games for download available while romulation ds section is temporally down; maybe he deserve a medal called (Can't think of one for now, so sleeepy)
Only the admins or moderators have the power to give the user the medal? how was this suggestion?
