I have a HP deskjet printer, model D2460 [ uses # 21(black), and # 22(tricolor)], and i was told that i could just have it refilled with non-original ink rather than buying continuously original ink which would cost more than the printer in a short while.

    According to this link:

There are series, what are these series?

And there is this white liquid, what does this do? will water do?

and there is these plastic device that holds the cartridge while you use a syringe to suck out the air, is this a necessity?

    PLEASE help.

you have a 'D' or 'D2' series I think. Water will not do instead of the white liquid, and I would imagine the plastic thing is necessary. Refilling is a messy business so I would take it to a shop to have it done if I were you. If you can't, then get a refill kit, not bottles of ink.

Not if you don't do it properly. it could potentially gum up the printer.

read read read and don't the good kits use a syringe? in america the big companies have recycling programs, and maybe discounts? plus you can buy refurbished carts. and always look for a printer with good reviews and inexpensive ink carts, also high capacity ones.

;) lexmark x4550 all-in-one. :) cost me like 100$usd and 30 each for high cap. cartridges.

Edit: amazon.com is your friend, and google.com for ink i'm guessing. also use lower quality prints, less ink, and if you print a lot, well part of the territory.

there are always the old okidata track printers, they were nice for text "only black and white"

In this country leximark cartridges cost almost as much as the printer.

thats why they want people to recycle so much. my printer came with free return mail package for recycling.

here is hp's recycle. no discount i can see. https://h30248.www3.hp.com/recycle/supplies/index.asp?__cc=us

    here is lexmark. http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/sequentialem/home/0,6959,204816596_660356306_0_en,00.html

ok just tried my first re-fill, very messy and i lack a cartridge holder(the one that sucks out excess air).
I have to print test page several times before it turned to be readable quality. anyways the quality went down when you dont use original ink wooot. not very advisable if your going to use it for presentations. Still good for printing reference materials though.

I read that the useful life of HP cartridge is 50 refills. Is this true?
