How would I place this patch on a ROM that I already started playing? Or can I download a new ROM but still have the save data so it's prepatched?

Yeah...I've noticed some issues when using my old save from v3a to v5; such as there being no save to load XD. My guess is that the game code got changed yet again with the update.
