    Hmm.

This one's iffy for me, because I'm pretty fond of both genres. Both have roots in jazz for it's constant beat, yet Rock splits off by going with Country and Blues as influence, with Hip Hop having big band and R&B being the bigger influences. Which coincidentally each style mentioned here has affected the other significantly.

So I'm wondering what other poeple think. Do you sterr towards the fluidity of a guitar or the kick and snare of a good beat?

i'm a lover of all music, i used to like rap but the more and more i learn about music the more i can't stand it.

they're not really comparable at all, rock fans love rock and rap fans love rap and it's hard to make them see eye to eye unless you get a rap/rock collaboration which is probably the only way i can stomach rap these days.

and if your talking about beat then rock wins on that front, not only because you get far greater beats but rap is generally only done on a 4/4 beat where rock can mix it up and still sound excellent if not better.

i still like some rap as long as it's not about some retard rolling with his homies, shooting up some mother fuckers or the child of a well off family singing about coming from the hood. which is basically all of it but i like the odd song that has a good melody/sample on it and or collaborations with real singers.

    Rock all the way.

I can't really stand rap at all. It just seems impossible to listen to and it isn't that catchy to me.

    ^ Lmao, that's entirely true.

I like the fluidity of the guitar, so I am inclined to Rock music.

    my opinion...
rap is not music seeing that most of the time, they do not implement much music into their song, all of their songs are concentrated on singing and rhyming. so i would consider rap a form of aggressive poetry.
rock do consider music because they put singing AND more modern bands are putting feelings and emotions into their music, most noticeably with keyboard synths and guitars.

now, i would rather listen to rock because most rap is about drugs, killing, and sex. while rock (alternative, not metal) will sing about life, love, and emotion.

Rock of course. Rap for me is one of those hit and miss genre's that hit the spot at times, and just go on booming for hours without me even noticing.

Rock of course, is one of the, if not, most energetic, emotional and engaging genre(s) in all of music. But there are some aspects that I can only get from Rap that I couldn't from Rock.

Like how laid back and soothing Rap could be at times, and how spot on lyrics could be, or how beautifully laid the lines are. It's just a whole different form of music for me, even maybe a whole kind of art I learn to appreciate. But when it comes down to good old music, Rock is definitely the way to go.

rap, but im kinda getting bored of the new rap these days that sing about drugs, killing, beefing etc. but the old school rap was better, it had more heart back the with tupac, ice cube, biggie the days when there singing about how hard life was and all that, and a couple of beef tracks here and there you know, lil wayne good, t.i good, and others, but some of them just gotta mix it up a bit...when i think about rock i think about the heavey metal rock, shouting and screaming no offense to the rock fans.

ok? what else does rap do besides from singing? i dont hear much guitar, keyboard melodies. all i remember from rap music wise was extremely basic and repetitive bass/drum beats and simple synth
thats not much there to call music, and yes i know the definition of music! but in rap, all rappers do is combint weird words that make sense and even make useless words.
im stopping here cause i dont wanna get warnings or anything for flaming or whatever.

i'm not arguing saying it's not shit; it is.

what i am saying is it is still music, it's just not one you or even i like. whatever is thought it is still music.

Rap Metal. But to be fair. I like most genres of music, actually... I think I like at least one song from every genre....

But if I were to listen to rap, I would likely listen to it in metal form :3 I enjoy the music from raw guitar, bass and drums. But I also enjoy lyrics of a lot of rap songs. So, yeah. Rap Metal is the way I go.

    : D

One Rap song could hold more meaning than a whole Death Metal Album. Rap takes all of life's components and puts all that into a harmonious string of words. It's not just gang banging and drive bys.
