My PC only has 320 MB of ram... and I am using both of the slots I can put ram into... Can I add more ram just by removing one or both of the cards and replacing them with 1GB or 2GB cards?
sort of. You need to know how much memory your machine is capable of using, and how much it can address in each slot. Try the scanner at www.crucial.com.
Thanks loony, I'm doing it now dammit... it says all I can have is 512MB... good thing I found this out before I bought the RAM... ok, here's one more question... what about Hard Drives? I have a free space for a second hard drive, anything I have to check for that?
Open device manager (right click my computer, choose properties, then on the hardware tab) and tell me what devices you have in the following categories: Disk drives DVD/CDROM drives IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers SCSI and RAID controllers (if you have this category) from what you have said about the RAM, the age of the computer suggests to me that you may be limited to 32GB per disk drive.
Disk Drive: QUANTUM FIREBALLlct20 30 DVD/CD Rom Drives: HP CD-Writer+ 8000 IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers: Intel(r) 82810AA Bus Master IDE controller, Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel, Virtual disk Enumerator @Acekilla: My motherboard is an Intel 82810e 700mhz. processor with Windows XP home edition.
OK, you can add another PATA/ATA hard disk, but you're limited to 32GB per disk (40GB disk with the 32GB limit jumper set).
That's right loony and if not mistaken with that kind chipset at the mobo he can add the ram up to 1GB.
Why my computer specs(my computer properties) shows that my computer only have 3GB of RAM?while I have 4GB of RAM installed on the motherboard?(2GB each)
Not the motherboard but the current windows you using, is it windows 32 bit or 64 bit, cause 32 bit only support up to 3GB of ram and 64 bit could support up to 8GB.
64 bit supports FAR more than 8 GB, I have 12 GB in my desktop and it's using all of it just fine. Also, don't just install 64-bit, your CPU needs to support it.
