So today my computer came and I was very excited, I had my TV out and the HDMI cables and I go and unpack my computer and set everything up and then I see that there is no HDMI port although the damn thing is compatable with HDMI & DVI (Yes both!) and I go like, i'll sort that out later and my mouse and keyboard need discs put in for them to work so I probably won't be able to even install windows vista 64 bit (yeah, 64 bit came in it which i've heard is terrible) and the DVI to HDMI or HDMI to DVI is confusing me and there's male and female sides? Bloody 'ell.. So now i'm shopping for a new monitor, i'm just going to buy a cheap one although I have a bloody nvidia geforce gtx 285 and other high spec parts which cost me over £1300!

male has pins, female has holes.

very few computers have HDMI ports, although the high end graphics cards have adaptors, it is miore usual to use DVI for computers. Using a television as a primary display is not a good idea. I highly reccomend samsung monitors.

Do you even understand how HDMI and DVI differs? HDMI is not necessarily better, the only real difference is that HDMI transfers video and sound whereas DVI only transfers video. It's both digital video so the quality will be the same.

Most likely you'll have an optical or digital s/pdif out plug, just use that for sound and you'll have some lovely 5.1 sound.
