r4i saves get buggered up

hi new to this only had r4i for a week but i noticed some games refused to save even though the r4 says it has.
but while i was adding new roms i noticed loads of saves the same for the games that refused to save(1 for every time i booted that rom up),i also noticed that it was all capitals not like the others eg:MARIO.SAV not Mario.sav so i changed them all to the same type as the rom was spelt and the games now save.

can anybody tell me how to sort this or why it happens.
