R4s are not the card to get for DSs at all. All new ones now are fakes. My suggestion is to either get the Acekard DSi card, the DSTT DSi card, or wait for the CycloDS DSi flashcard

For the Acekard DSi card, the DSTT DSi card, or CycloDS DSi what size memory card will work without ruining the DS?

you should have got a disk with your r4 card if not go to this site http://linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/ but if you look on your r4 card it will tell you what kinda r4 card it is

Leelees, whatever you want (which the flashcart can support of course). Don't go for a too high capacity though. Try a 4, 8, or 16GB (or lower of course).

Make sure you have the latest firmware loaded onto your MicroSD.

    Go to http://linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/

You said you had an R4 Upgrade. Probably the R4-III / R4 Upgrade Latest: v3.08
Download the english file (or another language if you English is not your primary language), extract the files to your MicroSD.

Try backing up and format your MicroSD as well.

If you have a r4 sdhc go to http://www.ndslr4.com/download-en.htm. I had the same problem with mine and it worked fine afterwards.

you were right the first time, you want the R4-III upgrade software. moonshell always gives an error as far as I know, you can ignore it and it will work.

you need to extract the game using winrar (www.rarlabs.com), see the relevant tutorial in the tutorials section if you aren't sure how, then yes you just paste the extracted .nds file onto your microsd.
