What are the pros and cons of each one? And explain why you think it is better.

I don't really have much to say about r4, I've never used it,
but I do have a cycloDS, and I'll tell you, it is wonderful!
The layout is very simple and the design is great, also, the card fits into the ds perfectly, greatly made!

CycloDS. Both support PALib, libnds, DevkitArm, lua etc. made homebrew fine.

Awesome, and it's true you can only purchase these online right?

That is correct. The MicroSD can be purchased in your local electronic store, but the flashcart (CycloDS, R4, etc) has to be bought online.

Well the pro's of the R4 is that it's really reliable, there's not been a firmware update lately because it's almost perfect emulation wise, it's simple to use, and the cheat.dat is the most compatible with it.
I have't played the CycloDS, I do know that it is similar to the R4 and it is about a tie between the two, however the CycloDS is still having firmware updates, in the future it may surpass the R4 alot or maybe not.
Either way, I prefer the R4, it's main point is reliability and that's what I want in a flashcart.

I am not an expert, if you want to know the full stats then check reviews on GBATemp or an expert site on flashcarts,
    hope I helped :)

Edit: My post may be a bit biased. Here's some unbiased parts- If the R4 doesn't get updates eventually then the flashcart may become pretty bad, there's a rumour that the R4 team has quit and the R4 may decline... I personally think that some people would make updates for the R4 in the future who aren't the R4 team because it's quite popular but that's a maybe... So far it's pretty efficient though...

The CycloDS is perfect emulation wise.

Man, I see that as an insult to CycloDS. I mean the R4 is good or was good in it's prime but now it's dying. The CycloDS took the competition out a long time ago. However, I agree that the R4 is more popular, but that's because it has been around longer.

It already did. Even the GBATemp team mentioned it in their review.

    Read above comment.

Crap, you edited. Alright once again I agree that the R4 is probably the most popular flashcart but it's already past it's prime. I have used both the CycloDS and the R4 and I can sincerely tell you that I had less problems with the CycloDS. In fact, I've never had a problem with the CycloDS and I just updated to the latest firmware 2 days ago. I've been using my CycloDS with old firmware versions and it still was perfect. However, the CycloDS is expensive so a R4 would be a pretty good second choice.

Consequently, I strongly recommend the CycloDS flashcart, but if it's too expensive then go for the R4.

CycloDS has had a few game incompatibilities if you didn't know. Better to buy the MicroSD online too.

To get the best compatibility from the Flash Cards, make sure to get a Japanese microSD card, Kingston cards usually work the best.

Japanese Kingstons are the best sort to get.

Well of course, they had to. If they didn't, then they would have not improved anything. However, they did it with only a few firmware updates and it was a minor list of games compared to the other flashcarts.

When it comes to MicroSD, I agree with the above posts. if you can get your hands on a 2 GB Japanese Kingston MicroSD, then you are set for all your gaming needs.

Another reason is the awesome features that Cyclo has and will get in the future, like in-game text reader. *Gets orgasm

It's already on beta, so don't be surprised if it comes out in the next update. Can't wait.

The Cyclo's firmware can work on the R4 if you use a certain method that'll cost you a little bit of mb's , after all it is a clone

A friend of mine told me recently that the R4 is gonna just die soon because Nintendo sued them. I checked the official site they haven't had a firmware update since April of this year.

So more than likely I will be going with CycloDS. Since I don't have PayPal or a Credit Card, my b/f is giving me the money to give to a friend who has a Credit Card to get it for me. He says it's a early Christmas Gift... ;) So, I should be getting my CycloDS like next week. My will put in the order as soon as he gets home from work.

Nintendo haven't sued them... That's bullsh*t! But the CycloDS is probably the best choice.
The R4 team isn't fully together anymore, they've kinda quitted it...

the cyclo ds is better than the R4, there is a new r4 out there called a r4sdhc And that is better than cyclo ds. surprisingly though not many people know about it and i havent seen a single review anywhere.

Nintendo DID sue a lot of flash card manufacturers, I wouldn't be surprised if R4 was among them. R4 is pretty old stuff by now, many cards have surpassed it in terms of features.

I have a SuperCard DS ONE myself which is pretty sweet, though lately it's been pissing me off. I would go with CycloDS myself, I've heard only good things. I plan on picking one up in the near future as my supercard seems to be dying.

Also just curious, does the CycloDS support SDHC? I got a 4GB Kingston and I'm hopin' it works.
