R4 Language Settings - Traditional Chinese to English

My niece's NDS and R4 were bought second hand, and the R4 settings happened to be in Chinese.

This is not too much of a problem because the game titles are all in English, just the cheats settings and the game info on the bottom screen are in Chinese.

Nevertheless, my niece wants it to be entirely in English.

ALSO! I was wondering how one changes the themes in the R4.
I've seen various themes on my friends NDS' and they tell me that their R4's arrived with that theme.

By theme I mean the backgrounds on the top and bottom screens at start-up.

Is there are way to change the the theme? If so, how?

You just download the English firmware and put it on the MicroSD.

 

I did that. And it messed up the R4 entirely. She was unable to play any game until I switched the firmware back to the original.

 

Did you download the right firmware (There are many R4s) and did you deleted the old firmware after putting the new one?

 

Yes. I made sure the firmware I downloaded was NOT fake (because her R4 is an original). And OF COURSE I deleted the old firmware BEFORE putting in the new one. ...
