R4 freezing

Hi, i am hoping you may be able to help me. We all have R4s on our DSlites. However my daughters DS doesn't seem to like them. Originally we got the R4, and it worked lovely, until one day it got as far as the menu and froze. So i purchased the upgraded version and that was fine, again for many months. Then the same thing happened. As soon as the game list comes up it stops, completely unresponsive.

I have put her R4 and SD card in my DS and it worked and i have put mine in hers and it didn't work. I have even swapped the SD cards around. Nothing seems to work on it.

It seems to be a problem with the DS as oppose to the R4's. Has anyone heard of this problem before, and if so is there anything i can do, short of buying a new DS. :-\

    Thanks

That sounds a lot like the case of my cousin. Now I must ask if your kids take the R4 out of the DS a lot for aboslutely no reason, because if they do then the metal on the R4 DS card is worn down. And that causes the card to not read in some DS'es.
From what I can tell, you might have to take a close look at the metal that is exposed on the DS card to find if its worn down or not.
If it looks dirty then clean it using a dry cloth or rub a pencil eraser to get the connections clean again. If it looks worn down then (from my experience) you have no choice but to buy another one.

    Thanks for the reply three_strangers,

We don't tend to take them out much, they rarely need to, and i am happy with my selection. :)

The case and connectors look ok, and her card works in my DS, which makes me wonder if its the DS that has taken a dislike to the R4. I might have to see if i can get her a cheap DS just for this purpose, she is getting really frustrated and ends up borrowing mine. ::) ::)

    Thanks

Its good to see that I can help someone.
Is your DS in under the warranty? If your DS is under a year old then you can send it into Nintendo and they will replace/fix the DS plus give you a year extension on the warrany! Its totaly free and priority shipping comes in really fast.
Nintendo is really good to its customers when it comes to stuff like this. So maybe you should check on the Nintendo website at nintendo.com and see if you can go fill out the warranty form to send it in.

Hi craftysam, as three_stranger mentioned, it is likely the contact points on the R4. It used to happen to my R4 and as someone suggested, fold a 2" paper and slip it to the back of card (opposite of the contacts). This may nudge the card to be in contact with the DS. I had to do this in 1 of my many R4s. After a few frustrating moments, I decided to purchase an AceKard. It has a better menu and the firmware is kept up to date. R4's stopped at firmware v1.18.
