Hi guys, don't know if you can help with this one.
After originally working fine, the bottom screen now has some Chinese word on it when the DS starts up. The top screen is fine displaying the R4 logo.
My Son SWEARS he has not 'played' with the settings, obviously as I do not speak Chinese I am stumped at what to do next.
Has anyone experienced this at all.

    Thankx for any help!!

There is likely a language setting in the settings. English, Chinese, Spanish, etc.

the firmware may have been overwritten with the chinese version, reinstall the english version.

Unfortunately, our dad here doesn't know how to get there.

Most probably, Loonylion is right. If not (which I seriously doubt), then you just need to "play" with the settings.

I have pressed all the buttons to see if I can alter the settings, but nothing seems to work at all.
    Very frustrating!

I had a similar problem with the DSTT! All I did was update the cheat database from: http://cheats.gbatemp.net/
and it fixed the problem. You just have to download the right one for the R4 and it tells you which one on the credits and help.txt

    Hope that helps. ;)

This worked in okwatanzinwan case. I dont know if thats the problem or you have to do what Loonylion said and reinstall the english firmware. ;)

    You can't do it in-menu.

Go here to download the latest English firmware for the R4. Then here for a R4DS tutorial. It explains there how to update the firmware if you don't already know.

I'm not sure if this is a necessary step, but after I extracted the latest English Firmware for the R4, and put them all on a clean card, all formatted, and it didn't work. After a while, I downloaded a patch, which is supposed to make your card from Chinese, Japanese into English. Here's a link: http://www.wiilovemario.com/Patching+the+Chinese+R4DS+to+use+the+English+firmware
Another, same steps, might be easier to understand: http://ehsia.com/r4-chinese-english/

Just follow the steps, and you'll be fine! XD After the patch, there should be a file that says, info.dat. I guess, from my experience. ^_^ Hope this helps badger929!
