hahaha, i have the same curious tone like that on a other site i used to belong at... hahaha foolish times...mods can't know what our passwords are because their primary duties is to moderate the boards and stuff. PM or private messaging on the other hand, only the admins has powers to access our accounts and read our pm...hehehe i posted this cause i was relieve someone posted this question.... dirty talks in pm, not on the boards. lol
Actually, admins do not know your password either. When users sign up we use one-way encryption on the password (plus a salt for the technical people) and store it in the encrypted form. Since the encryption is one way the only method for getting a users password would be to bruteforce it by encrypting every possible combination of characters until we hit one. And even then it's not guaranteed to be the proper password as the one-way encryption has collisions - meaning that two passwords might give the same encrypted hash. When users then login we take the password and encrypt it again, then compare it to the stored encrypted password. So we literally never store your actual password and thus cannot check it.
its different from site to sites, right? cause back then from that other site, admins can access our accounts and read our pm, and when we were having trouble from a certain person, we just pm each other, but that person turned into an admin and kinda read our pm, so, we are suspended by that said person... but like ace said, its really amazing how that works.
