Hey guys I wonder if anyone can help, I've been wanting to play either Heart Gold or Soul Silver but seeing as the actual games are quite hard to get hold of where I live I was just going to get the ROMs, however its come to my attention there are issues between trading pokemon between a non-official version of SS/HG and a copy of Black/White or B/W2, and I'd hate to put that much effort into SS/HG and not be able to keep any of the legendaries that I can get on my journey. Does anyone know if there are ANY ways of trading from a ROM of SS/HG to either a Rom of B/W or the actual carts of B/W? I mainly play on R4 however if anyone knows of a way to trade between them that'd be awesome!

Can't you just use PokeGen, export the Pokemon from your HG/SS ROMs, and insert it into the B/W ROMs?
As for transferring from HG/SS to an actual cart of B/W, I think there is a way, but not sure.

If you want PokeGen, it can be found here: http://projectpokemon.org/forums/showthread.php?6424-Download-link-and-information

ah I didnt know PokeGen could be used to export Pokemon I thought it was simply used to hack in pokemon. In this case I could always use this to export them from SS, import them into my rom of B2 and then transfer from that straight to my official W2 Game, thank you!

You can't trade between HG/SS and B/W because HG/SS (aswell as D/P/Pl) belong to generation 4 and B/W (as well as B2/W2) belong to generation 5. PokeGen also don't work because of the different generations, it'll mess up your Pokémons data.

But there is another way to get Pokémon from gen. 4 to gen. 5.
On Route 15 (left from Black City/White Forest) there is the Poké Transfer Lab. There you can transfer Pokémon from any gen. 4 game to your B/W game.
The onliest disadvantage is, that you can only transfer from gen. 4 to gen. 5. Backwards it's not possible.

The Poke Transfer Lab doesn't work if you're not using an official copy of Soul Silver or Heart Gold, though. What exactly doesn't work properly when you're using PokeGen to bring Pokemon from Gen4 to Gen5 though? I just tried it with my starter pokemon and it seems to work fine :S

    There are only small mistakes.
Some met locations get corrupted or displayed wrong, so those Pokémon might be blocked in online tournaments, GTS and (maybe) Dream World.
For example Dialgas location changed from Spear Pillar to White Forest.
If you don't care about that, you can use PokeGen as well.

Well I don't think I'd be using the legendaries for anything other than their pokedex data and the others I bring over will be my faves that arent available in Gen 6 like scyther etc and those I can Breed, release the PokeGen'd version and keep the baby as the babies data should be generated by the game and thus have no issues ^_^

    Honestly, nor did I.
But I remember that being a feature in PokeGen, or something similar (like PokeSav).

    Really?
    I never knew that... weird.

If you don't want any errors, you can always import the Pokemon from SS/HG to B/W using the PokeGen method, but then change the data to match what it would be like in B/W.
So as Chacu said as an example, manually edit the location of finding Diagla from Spear Pillar to the White Forest to make it look legitimate.

But you really only need to do that if you want to enter it into tournaments etc.

    Use this:

Then use pokegen to put the converted .pkm files in your Black/white save file.

Follow this, or else you'll screw up certain pieces of data.
Use Pokegen as it is more supported, and I have a more efficient way of doing it through Pokegen.
You'll be "recreating" your Pokemon for Gen 5, and not actually transferring them, but it will look as if you did transfer them when playing Gen 5 games.
