    1. Each persona game takes place in the same universe (meaning characters, places, events, etc. all influence each other) however, each game takes place in a separate timeline from the other. As such, while it might help you understand the whole picture of the Persona universe better if you played the first games, it isn't really a requirement. Fun Fact: Since the persona games all take place in the same universe and within the same century, there are TONS of references to other persona games within each.

    2. There are only 2 out of the 4 persona games on the PSP as of now. The 3rd persona game - Persona 2: Innocent Sin - will be released for the PSP on Sept. 20, 2011. The 4th Persona game - Persona 4: The Golden - will be released for the Vita in Japan on 2012.

Now personally, I started with P3P because that was the one I knew about. However, I'd recommend starting with the first Persona, since the battle system and the gameplay style is less advanced than P3P. If you did it the other way around, you might get frustrated or bored since you shifted from an advanced game to a simpler one. (like what would inevitably happen to me)

    3. Since I only played P3P, I'll just give a brief blurb about it 'k?

The Dark Hour - A strange time hidden between one day and the next. Terrible creatures lurk in the darkness, preying upon those unfortunate enough to wander into it. For the past few years, a secret organization of young high school students have fought these shadows and protected the world; using a special power born from within them and activated by The Dark Hour - Persona. You are its newest member. Hidden within you a power greater than Persona, you alone have the power to end The Dark Hour forever and save the world from impending doom. Will you live to see the light of day?

And yes, most of that stuff I just ripped off from the summary from gamefaqs with a couple of personal flairs.

Persona isn't really all that connected by story except both Persona 2 games, Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment.

Persona 1, Revelations, the one i hate because of the ps1 version.

In Persona 2 some characters from Persona appear.

Persona 2 Innocent Sin is before Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. I literally cannot give out the story of Eternal Punishment because anything about it would spoil Innocent Sin.

My favorites are Persona 3 and 4.
