questions about linux

    i've looked all over, and can't seem to find any anti-virus for it, so i guess my question is, does it need it?

    Not really. You can use ClamAV, but it isn't necessary at all. There are linux viruses, but it's easy to prevent them to be annoying. Most windows viruses are made in linux, though.

    clamav primarily detects windows virii.

    That's true. Most people use clamav to scan their windows partitions as opposed to a antivirus for linux.
