Can I use a European charge cable to charge an American DS Lite? I know the outputs are the same; 5.2 volts, but I'd like to know for sure if it's safe to use different charge cables for the DS Lite! Thanks, again for any information!

You should be able to charge it with a European charger, as they are similar in regions and they have the same volts. If it doesn't work, it wouldn't blow your battery or anything, it just wouldn't simply charge. You'd then have to get a third party charger or a regular charger or something.

so long as you use the correct cable for the country you are in, yes. Using an american charger in england would result in a loud bang and some smoke.

so even though the french charger outputs at 5.2 volts same as the american charger it woould'nt work on an american ds lite?

it would, yes. however, as the mains voltages in america and france are different, if the mains voltage is higher than what the charger expects (i.e a US charger expects 120V in, UK mains voltage is 230V) the charger will blow up. So, you can use a french charger on an american DS when you are in france, but when you are in the US you must use a US charger. Similarly, if you are in the UK, you must use a UK charger.

French charger 230 volts -|) French voltage 230 -|) American DS 120 volts. OK?

no, the american CHARGER is 120V, the DS is not. the purpose of the charger is to step the mains voltage down to whatever the DS uses, i.e 5.4V. because of that, using a french charger on an american DS in france is fine.

thank you very much for the info, it now works; one problem dealt with. seeing as how people in france have no idea what a voltage converter is i'll probably end up buying a french charger for when i visit; I have family here and I'm french so I come often, hehe... next step China!!!

Oh and I'll be sure to step by once in a while and help out others as you have helped me. Thaannkkss!!!

or you can use a converter/voltage regulator

the common socket here for example is 220v and usually flat but a lot of electronics that are shipped here have round male parts that are 220v, as the round hole sockets are for 110v usually, we just get a converter or plug it up to a voltage regulator
