Ok....so I'm relatively new to Romulation, well at least in the sense of actively participating in the forums and such. I figured since I download from here, I'll contribute something. It's only fair right? My buddy, Nu885, posted a tutorial and I was sold on the contribution aspect. Gamers helping gamers. He convinced me that I should definitely actively participate. So here I am. I couldn't help but notice on this "reviews" section, there's not a lot of reviews for the Playstation ISO's offered at Romulation. I've had to go third party for my reviews and so on, so here's the first, in a soon-to-be, long line of reviews from yours truly. I'll start with my review of Playstation game, All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball. Now...if you have kids that are casual gamers and are into dodgeball, then this is definitely a game for them. Lack of gameplay options, other than difficulty level make this game VERY lack luster. All the teams in the game seemingly have EXACTLY the same stats...so other than looking different, you won't get any other difference in the way the teams play. This game lacks in pretty much every aspect of gaming. I completed the "tournament" mode on the hardest difficulty level, in literally 20 minutes. The only reward being the ONE "hidden" team available for selection. The only couple of good things I can say about this particular game is that the controls are very responsive. This game has no replayability, unless you're playing it tournament style with a group of your friends. Don't expect this game to occupy your time with any worth while gaming experience. If you'd like a review for any Playstation 1 game...I'm your man haha. I'm definitely open to taking requests and such, and I'm always down to log as many hours as it takes to give you all an objective, and worthy review. Sorry this one was so short...but if you decide to play the game anyway, you'll understand. Sound: 7/10 Graphics: 5/10 Controls: 9/10 Gameplay: 3/10 Replay Value: 1/10 Overall: 3/10
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review Nica attempt at a review but you can probably do more. First off, go to this thread & see how reviews should be done: https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,4904.0.html Pictures would definitely help
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 the reviews are sort of modeled after IGN reviews with the presentation blah blah. under each category, explain why you gave it that score. (it adds more beef to your review) using watermarked images is okay. (quality is better than quantity by the way) (quality>originality, in my opinion) add in a pros/cons section if that is your style. also, bold or italicize sub-headings for organization. you can also organize your entire review into sub-topics like story, gameplay, new features (if remade), etc. compare and contrast to other competing games at the time. (or for remakes, compare and contrast original to the remake) make sure that your score is out of 50, although, in my reviews, I add more info on average (0, 10), score (0, 10) and rating (1, 5 | whole numbers). also, take a good look at 9NineBreaker9's reviews. he is the BEST reviewer so you can also learn from the best. don't worry. the first one is never the greatest, but at least there is always room for improvement edit: some people like it when the review has no grammar or spelling mistakes. (although some words that are two words that are actually one word is an honest mistake, ie. worth while = worthwhile) edit2: good review on the gameplay by the way. i will steer clear of this one.
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 I'd like to back up what insanecrazy07 said, look at 9NineBreaker9's reviews, that's the kind of review you want to write. Also read some of the others in the section too. If you are using Microsoft Word, try for at least two pages without pictures. And I think the review was very well done, just minor errors like not having a total and elaboration under the presentation, graphics etc. It's going to be interesting how your reviews turn out, and I can't wait to read them, good luck in the future.
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 dude, i like...invented that. (i said that somewhere on the reviews board...) PLAGIARISM! [facepalm] ...lol edit: i really would enforce the 2 page rule since the mods will get on your ass about length if it does not have enough beef to it. edit2: we really need a PSX reviewer.
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 Thanks for the feedback everybody! As I reread that review...yeah, it wasn't the greatest by any means, but I'm definitely taking in all the feedback from everybody for future reviews. I'm currently working on two more; Herc's Adventures and Suikoden II. Those are both shaping up to be MUCH better than this one. Screenshots will definitely be added in further reviews, plus I'm altering my style. The style that this one was in, definitely didn't turn out like I saw it in my head. I always welcome back of course, good or bad. It seems like there's not many PS One fans left out there!! I'm kinda surprised that people actually read that review. Again, looking forward to improving my reviews, and always appreciate feedback! Thanks guys!!
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 some people here are BIG fans of the suikoden series so you better put a lot of time into reviewing suikoden II. on average, I spend a good week on reviewing a game (usually anything by Square, I deny that Enix even exists.) I haven't played the suikoden series so assume that when you write this, that your readers will have NO clue what suikoden is all about. here are some ideas: compare and contrast suikoden I to suikoden II story (no spoilers, or make it minimal) is it a continuation, or a completely new storyline? maybe a character list? don't plagiarize from wikipedia... gameplay (turn based RPG? strategy? whatever) pros and cons any cool little secrets or exploits you found in the game (that you can't find anywhere else) any cool references (to other games, real life, pop culture, etc.) reception: really popular release for its time? or overlooked? or too much hype? parts of the game you don't like: ie. FF8's dollet mission was a major pain in the ass the first time I played it. you don't have to use all of those, but that should definitely get you started. and for a really good review, you should have 3-4 pages 12 size font times new roman, no pictures in MS word.
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 actually you don't have to spend a week writing a review, it takes me about 3-4 hours to write one, and about 30 mins to read it over a couple of times... other than that, follow everything he said and you'll be fine ;D
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 i don't actually start writing my review a week before it is submitted, but all of the ideas come to mind on that day. and then a few days later i actually start writing it. i actually do the outline, rough draft, and final copy setup so you kind of need a week to do that.
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 That's good to know guys, okay first review shamus486.
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 Thanks for the warning on the Suikoden review!! Considering as how I've put, so far, 74-ish hours on the game, I'm definitely making notes haha. The Suikoden review won't be totally done for awhile...I still need to see all the endings, and get all 108 characters before I write the full review. So that ones' gonna be thorough. But...in like, 20 minutes my Herc's Adventures review is going to be up, I'm sure you'll all be impressed at how far I've come in, 2 days? haha
Re: (PSX) All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball review by Shamus486 by the way shamus, put [PSX] instead of (PSX). don't be a nonconformist. lol edit: it should look like this: [PSX] All-Star Slammin' Dodgeball - Shamus486
