PSP with CFW 5.51 questions

A friend of mine went and had the custom firmware 5.51 installed on his PSP. Now I don't know jack about this (noob) so I wasn't much help and I have spent about an hour searching for instructions on how to use emulators on this to try and help him out.

So my question is can emulators be run on this CFW and if so where do you place the files on the memory stick and are there any special things that have to be done to get them to run. And what else can be done with a CFW?

He has tried about 3 different NES emulators and 1 Snes and also a rom for each and it seems to recognize the emulator but when he selects it, it will say game "could not start because data is corrupt". Also the roms being used were used for PC emulators that I know work and I would assume it wouldn't make a difference.

This was done at a local game shop (theres a shocker huh?) and he told me he used a "white" battery that had "tool" printed on it. It gave the option 5.00 or 5.50 firmware and he chose 5.50 and the guy then told him he had something on a memory stick that would bring it up to 5.51 now as for the programs that were on the memory card he didn't know what was used.

Anyway thanks for any info you guys can give so I can pass it along and save us both from major headaches. Also please keep in mind any questions asked I might not be able to answer right off as I would have to call up my friend and ask him.

It really depends on the emulator. Most come with a read me or how to that tells you where it needs to be located, what files it needs to run (like a BIOS file) where the games need to be stored, save files, etc.

I thought that as well, but I've asked him if the ones he downloaded had readme files or some kind of instructions but he claims it didn't.

the ones he tried for NES was:

    e[mulator]

    InfoNes v0.95

    NesterJ PSP v1.20

And the SNES one that was tried was

    Snesx9 PSP

He will probably need to run a popsloader, as most of those emulators need to run at the 1.5 firmware. The only emulator that runs almost perfectly is the GBA. The others have crappy reliability and usually need a lot of in game customization.

Also, you need the emulators that have been specifically coded to run on the PSP, as PC based ones won't run at all.

As for putting them on the PSP they go in the PSP\Game folder like a PSX eboot.

    Um...what is the CFW name?

    m33...MHU?

What is the extension name of it?

The only one I know is the medel of honour exploit...

What zeb said and also I thought there wasnt a 5.51 custom firmware. I'm on 5.50 GEN-B (Full) and everything runs fine for me, not sure if your firmware has a popsloader by the way apocolyptica. And make sure that it isn't a 1.50 version of the software. Then it should work for you

Well he as returned to the gameshop and had the firmware changed to 5.00 M33 so I guess we will see what that can do.

CFW 5.51? The hacked firmware is still under development (i hope). He just updated the OFW 5.51 from Sony.

^its CFW 5.00 M33-6 now (with 1.50 kernel installed) its also a Phat 1001 model

I've got it with me now.Since my friend gave up on it and thought I could figure it out and I can work better hands on than trying to explain things over the phone. Had success getting a NES emulator to run, but now I am trying to figure out PSP isos and other emulators.

    [Edit]
Well got the PSP ISOs working...thats what I call progress, but i'm about to say the hell with the emulators. I've tried a couple of SNES emulators and I can get the icon to show for it, but when I push X it acts as if its going to load and comes back on saying game cannot be started blah blah.

So am I safe to assume that there is a limited amount of emulators that will work on a psp?
