My first Review: Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (My reviews are short and to the point) Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is one of the best games availible for the PSP. Not only does it take advantage of the powerful 2D capabilities of the system, it gets around the annoying PSP controls. This game is a portable 'update' of Street Fighter Alpha 3, a game which once dazzled PS1 systems. Presentation: The game has adequate presentation for the menu and the character selection (which has to be simple) is very awesome. Make sure you drop by Vega on the way out!The presentation is a bad thing about this game, but thankfully everything else does make up for it's bland presentation. Also on the character selection screen, even though I show you it, there are other characters unlocked by the usual arcade hold down that button + that button = other character. It isn't well known, but Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max has a lot of modes on it's menu screen. Graphics: The graphics in this game are FULL of life. They really are arcade quality. The sprites are very well detailed and are given a small personailty even within their starting postion and when the match ends. The game really does show itself off quite well when it comes to the ingame fights. There is some noticable lag when the fights are loading but other than that the game runs without pretty much any slowdown at all. Adon: I shall kill them with my sterotypical Kung Fu pose! The graphics are translated very well from the arcade which is all that matters really. Sound: The sounds in the game are translated very well from the arcade. It really does try to immerse into a world of street fighting (and the rest of London's urban lifestyle). The announcers voice is pretty funny considering this game is supposed to be comical but don't get me wrong, the sound is essential to playing the game properly. But the sounds can sometimes lag on the PSP (I experienced that on the Phat only though) Gameplay: If you don't know what street fighter is, it's a fighting game. Go to youtube and type in ryu hadouken for some type of idea what street fighter is! Seriously it's a fighting game. You fight against someone to go further in the game. Since the PSP controls are not optimized for these kind of games, it can be hard to play it, but thankfully the controls work (kind of) and if you are not happy you can edit them through pre-set control types (I might be mistaken there though) Lasting Appeal: I'm just going to run through what you can do in this game. You can play Arcade, World Tour (which is pretty much you leveling a character of your choice up to be powerful), Final Boss (Fight Bison with a press of the X button!), 2 on 1, 1 on 2, Quick Play, Tournament, Multiplayer, and variants of such. The game has a lot of replay value which helps it stay in your most played collection. Overall: I bet on the girl with the mask on her face! This game is really fun, and it is essential for anyone who likes fighting games in General and has a PSP. For anyone else however, it's worth a rent at least. Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is a game for Street Fighter fans who like their gaming on the go. It's pure fan-service but thankfully it's adapted so anyone with a PSP can play it. The Controls aren't really well suited for it but that's a hardware issue, so I can't use that as an excuse. Scores: Presentation 6/10 Graphics: 9/10 Sound: 8/10 Gameplay: 10/10 Lasting Appeal: 10/10 Overall: 43/50
Re: [PSP]Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max - GideonB Great review street fighters have always been a great way to kill time this game is good for on the road travells while your sitting in the back sit
Re: [PSP]Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max - GideonB I preferred the Japanese version though with the "real/original not messed up" names of some characters like Gouki for Akuma, Vega for Bison, Vega for Balrog & M.Bison for Balrog.
Re: [PSP]Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max - GideonB how are the controls on a handheld?! i could never play a fighting game on a handheld because i often end up shaking, wobbling or doing some sort of movement on the controller while performing special moves and combinations. for this on a handheld is pretty hard for me as everything will be moving and that would be a killer as it'll be hard to keep focus on the screen since it's moving. i own street fighter alpha 3 on the gba and i could not have beaten the game because of that.
Re: [PSP]Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max - GideonB the controls are actually not that bad, but they require some getting using to with the original PSP because the D-Pad and analogue stick fail at anything.
