    This is an odd error.

I turn it on and while all lights are going, the screen stays dark, and it's not until I flick it into standby a few times that I may get the screen back on.

And sometimes if I enter recovery while I see the menu it's frozen-can't move, so to fix I have to flick the switch a few dozen times.

    Here are the facts...

    -psp 2000

    -Firmware-5.00m33v6

-Has only started doing this recently

-A few months after a psp shell change-from standard black to cystal black (see thru)

-As a result the current on switch doesn't automatically move into the original postition-have to manually move it back or the system counts it as holding the power switch

-I have reformatted the internal flash settings.

-It is NOT the memory card-I used a micro sd adapter with 2 8GB cards but have since swapped back to an official sony 8GB card-same issue is preset.

The person who put the shell on is a console modder-He's done my ps2, gamecube, and I assumed that he'd done it safely, and because of the time period between when he done this I can't get him to fix it for free as it's outside his "warrent", also he hated changing the shell as I had to leave the unti with him over night-as opposed to the 1 hour jobs he normally does.

    Any clues?

Battery problems? Is this CFW or OFW? If its CFW, its probably a firmware/hardware issue. I doubt if its OFW, because then it may be the battery, or just a bad firmware. idk because my PSP broke a long while ago, and I never bothered to get a new one, so, I may not be much of a help...

The problem has stopped all of a sudden...

And I already stated I'm using 5.00m33v6 as firmware (CFW).

The battery may or may not be the issue...

See, when it did happen, while the screen would die out, all the other lights were still going, and the UMD drive would spin.

And in recovery mode, the screen would be light, and I can see the menu, but it's frizen in place...I have to set it to standby on and off a few times until it starts working like normal...in both recovery mode and standard...

Improper firmware install (which I doubt) OR just a hardware/software+system failure is all I can think of. IDK, my PSP is fried, so I can't exactly help you out all the way.

Might be the later-it's been running fine for over half a year now-on the curent firmware.

LOL,maybe the switch is bent or a bit faulty due to the skin change.I presume it slid up and down smoothly before.
It looks like the whole unit has to be stripped down to change the skin

I asked the guy to do that, he reckoned he did it a few times...

    It seems...fine now.

    It just went away.

If worse comes to worse, I'll jump on ebay and grab another, un-touched unit.

But I will pay him another visit first...after all...I gave him a whole night to do it :(

The worst is you need a new MB,as that switch is fixed to it.I wouldnt be happy if the PSP didnt come on after one flick of the switch.

Oh it comes on..and the lights go...

But the screen dies out, yet the lights would still go off, indicating it's working.

And if I flick it into standby mode what ever I was doing with the screen off would show.

It was strange I must admit, I don't know what I done, but after I reformatted the internal flash it seemed to ease up...

And the memory card change-time will tell if it's what I'm doing or something else...

If pressing the screen cured it,then I would think theres a problem with where the thin screen ribbon meets the MB.I would dislodge the screen, check the connections and investigate how the power switch isnt sliding smoothly.
