I know you have to do a bunch of things to get PSX games working on the PSP but do you have to do anything for actual PSP games?? Im thinking of getting a PSP but it sounds way too confusing to do. Can I just buy a PSP with a memory card and start downloading PSP games (not PSX)?? If your wondering what kind Im buying Its the white one that came with the Rachet and Clanck vidiogame.... (I think thats the game). If not then Does anyone know how much someone will charge to mod a PSP to play downloaded PSP games and maby PSX games??

I charge $20 to mod a PSP here in NZ, but its a pretty easy process, you can get all the instructions and tools you need off the web. Most PSP games you download willl be in ISO or CSO format. You dont need to do anything to the files to get them to play, just put them in the right folder and youll be away.

You have to downgrade your PSP to firmware version 1.5,
and then install custom firmware to be able to play all the latest games...

The best thing to do would be to find an original psp that has firmware version 1.5 already.
Failing that, try to get one with 3.5 or less...you can downgrade with a copy of Lumines...
Otherwise you'll have to get/make something called a pandora battery and a magic memory stick...

Afterdawn has some good guides on downgrading if I remember correctly

Edit: or Almo can tell you ;D

^ technically if you get a new slim PSP then you down downgrade to 1.50, most downgraders now downgrade to 3.71.

A word of warning, some of the newer slim and lites cant be downgraded at all, and currently none of the PSP 3001s can be downgraded,

How do I check to see if its downgradeable?? Oh and Thanks for the info. I didnt even know there were different kinds of PSP.

EDIT: I found out that its a PSP 2000 so it should work right?? Also how big are the memory cards?? How big are yours??

Most PSP 2000s are OK to download, however it it comes with 4.05 firmware then likely its a TA-088V3 motherboard which can not be downgraded. Ask your retailer how old the stock is and if he/she knows what firmware is currently on the units. I think most of the limited ed. psps are fairly old stock so they should downgrade fine.

Also memory cards are various. A 2gig will suffice most people. Most PSP games are beween 500MB and 1.5GB. I currently have 2 2GB cards, a 512MB and an 8GB card. You can also get 16GB cards and 32GB cards. Im unsure on whether the 32GB is compatible with the PSP though. Sony are also currently in development of a 132GB card, why anyone needs that kind of space on a card I dont know.

I did some diging around and found a shop close by that is selling a PSP original (used but with a 30 day money back) for $120 CAN, ScanDisk 4G memory stick for $30 CAN, and is willing to mod it for $50 CAN. So basicaly $200 but the bad news is that I will have to wate for 2 weeks because Ill be on the bottomn of his list. Or get the bundle with the PSP 2000 and a 1G memory stick for also $200 and 'try' to mod it myself. Bad news is if I screw up Ill be out $200. What should I do?? And the memory sticks you guys are using, are they all the same?? By that I mean scandisk??

The official sony pro duo sticks are generally faster and more reliable. Though ive got a couple of sandisk cards and they work fine. Just beware of cheap 3rd party cards and fakes because they tend to have a lot of issues playing games.

Report the shop thats modding PSP's
and get a free one as a reward from Sony....

    Then mod it yourself...

MAKE SURE YOU PUT EVERYTHING IN THE CORRECT FOLDERS ON YOUR MEMORY CARD, psp WONT FIND ANY MUSIC UNLESS ITS IN THE music FOLDER ON YOUR MEMORY STICK. aLSO psx GAMES DONT WORK NATIVELY ON THE psp, THEY HAVE TO BE CONVERTED TO eboot.pbp.

Edit: woops caps lock was on, sorry.
