    Hi guys
i'm about to buy a psp with 6.10 firmware - can i play homebrew (nes snes n64 etc games) with this software version or do i need to have a lower one? if i need a lower one can i change it?
also how well does the psp emulate n64 games? - worth buying a second hand psp for?
    Thanks for your help

    Well...

    Is the PSP a 1000, 2000, 3000, or a Go?

sorry - it's a 3003 slim and lite - do i need to get it flashed or is it like with my ds where you just need a cart (memory card for the psp?) and the right firmware/roms to play games
i really appreciate your help - i'm pretty good with ds related stuf but am a complete noob when it comes to psp!

    ::)

You can't use a flashcart for the PSP. :p Or anything even similar to the idea.
It's more complicated than using a flashcart as well.

If you are getting a 3000, then it is not worth it if the firmware is 6.10. As of now, anything above 5.50 firmware is essentially unhackable and you can't do anything except play some dinky homebrew games.

And if you try to flash your PSP 3000, it either won't work or it will brick.
I'm not sure as I have heard both sides.

:( thought it was too good to be true, when i realised you could play n64 games on the psp i was very excited, but now realising it's not going to be that easy.
what type of psp / software version would you recommend, is it easy to find somewhere to get it flashed (ebay etc? or will places like the mobile phone unlocking shops do it? - i live in ireland)
and finally - can you direct me to a beginners guide for this anywhere?

    Thanks for your help!

I would recommend getting the Star Wars or Daxter edition PSP-2000 or a PSP 1000 model.

They are fully flashable no matter what firmware they are on. And if you brick them, no big deal. They can just be easily unbricked as long as you have a Pandora battery.

These are what I'm talking about for the Slim PSPs.

My friend has the Daxter edition and it was on 6.20 OFW (official firmware) and I put 5.50 GEN-D3 CFW (custom firmware) onto it with the Pandora Method.

If you need a Pandora battery, then you can get one from here - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12472
    Works on the PSP-1000/2000.

And for a guide, I'm not too sure. I watched some little fat kid on youtube flash his. :p

Just use PSPGrader and use the Pandora method to flash the PSP with 5.00 M33-6.

Or you can just use this method. :) - http://pspslimhacks.com/easy-chickhen-custom-firmware-installer-without-pandora/

excellent! - thanks for all the real time links and info responses! you're better than tech support ;D

one final question - will any psp 2000 do or does it have to be a star wars or daxter edition?

Older models can be done, but to be safe, I'd stick with those two.

And you're welcome! I try to help everyone in any way I can. :)

For me, then next step is XBOX 360!! XD
I already know all about PSP, DS, and Wii.
