i formatted said thumb drive to fat32 TODAY to use it update the system and to play a video (i dl'd silent hill, for those who are curious). from what i read online, my files are sorted right as such: PS3 UPDATE (whatever the hell the name is) VIDEO SilentHill.AVI 0002.mp4 (the mp4 is a conversion of the avi) despite the folders being as they should according to my many cross-references, i still get nothing from my ps3. now according to my friend, this bc ps3 was from '07. is it possible that my flash drive is too new (i think its from '10), and that's why my ps3 doesnt see it? (and no shit i googled it first before asking here)
no, I've used a 2012 thumbdrive on my PS3. I don't know anything about a video folder, but I'd say you don't want the update folder there unless you're actually updating. You could try putting the video folder inside the PS3 folder.
Your PS3 should be able to recognize every drive. And if you can't see the files, just press the triangle and choose 'display all'.
ive seen about plugging it in, then going to video and scrolling down to the usb folder and needing to use triangle. i don't even get the usb folder to show
that is an other option i was thinking more along the lines of the ports being damaged or the dongle corrupted
I had previously been playing with a PS2 controller + adapter in the ports that I've tried so far, so the ports do work. grr, idk where my 2 gb sd is that i could try that.
what formats does the PS3 supports iirc sony removed the OS posibility out of it so in theory (and due to my scarce knowledge on the PS3) it could be that the PS3 cannot read NTFS but could read in theory FAT
He stated that the thumbdrive is fat32... It is unlikely that the PS3 can read NTFS as sony would have to pay microsoft a license fee in order to feature NTFS support.
well at any rate, even though i may not have gotten my flash drive to work, i was able to use my micro sd to update the system. once its done, gonna try and watch mah movie!!
