first off i own a ps3and owned a wii, i am probably a sony fan boy and personally think the ps3 is better maybe not enough justify the price though
i thought the current next gen face off list is a bit biased and wrong
    PS3
    Pros
    support for any notebook hdd(2.5")
7 controller support(not aware of any games that take more than 4 anyway)
    Blu-Ray
    free online
more space on disks for larger games(thanks to bluray) eg mgs4
Good Games library many exclusives that many owners of previous sony console will/have been looking forward to
    six-axis
    Cons
    large system
no use for more than 4 controllers
    games can be more expensive
Price (can buy an xbox and wii for same price)
not many games have utilised blurays extra space

    Wii
    Pros
Fun Gameplay(gets you off the couch)
    innovative games(wii sports, wiifit)
    cheap
    free online
    small size
    Cons
    very little on board space
    no dvd movie support
gets old quick (i dont know anyone that plays there wii often)
wiimote not all its made out to be
    not many online games

    XBOX 360
    Pros
    cheap
    very good online service
easily exchangable hdd(take to a mates house etc)
very good and diverse with some good blockbusters (halo 3 was the best first day performance of ANY media[no source but thought i heard it at release])
    Cons
most expensive system in the long run(online may be worth it)
    premium (payed) online
    heats up very quickly
many sound like a plane taking off

    Online
the ps3 has quite good online service which is free, xbox has a premium which is very, very good and has little lag, wii has less than impressive online, a small online community and very few online compatible games.

    Graphics
wii isnt even included in this round
Xbox has slightly better graphics with small increases on draw distance over the ps3

    Speed
Ps3 has better processor but lacks ram/graphics over xbox (not entirely sure on this)
ps3 runs slightly better, with a little bit less lag and slower loading times.

    Blu-Ray/DVD
wii only uses dvds for games
xbox has full dvd support for movies and games
ps3 has bluray, also supports dvd movies

Should mention that the Wii is more child friendly than 360 and PS3 for the games (ages 8 and below) reason I state this I see a lot more E rated games compaired to the T or M rated ones.

Nintendo have always been more interested in catering to children than the other markets

it's true because when you cater to children you end up developing a relationship to them as it becomes their first game console. it's like sex, you never forget your first sex partner. but nintendo has changed and it has become up to the third party developers to determine if they would like to cater to other age groups.

btw, i don't know if many of you have noticed, but as the years go by farther and farther, you notice that the wii truly isn't competeting with the 360/ps3 but rather the ps3 is competing with the 360. so truly, it means sony did something that got microsoft really upset that made them want to destroy sony. sony stepped on the wrong foot of someone.

or microsoft just wanted to muscle in and take over another industry?

no! i can't really refer back to the ps1 days as i don't remember them well and finding information about it now will be more complex due to the nature of limited resources in finding the information for the time period.

if you refer back to the ps2 days, have you noticed how pc gaming started to decline drastically? this means that when sony made the playstation system, they weren't really making a video game as in like what nintendo, sega and atari were doing but more like an extraction of pc gaming into a small box.

look at what scea stands for, sony computer entertainment of america. notice the reference for computer entertainment in the scea, and notice that microsoft is in the computer sector. that means during the ps1 days, sony made a console that literally penetrated the market of pc gaming or practically pc entertainment, which is the reason why microsoft made the xbox as a form of retaliating to sony for trying to obtain pc gaming sector.

did you realize that ms have been making the xbox and xbox 360 and haven't really made money and lost plenty of money and that reason isn't for making money but trying to hold on to their industry, the computer industy.

didn't you notice that on e3 2008, when microsoft had their presentation they mentioned ps3 as their competition and not nintendo. here is a link to the press conference of e3 2008. realize how wii is presented but when they make a comparison it's not on nintendo but on sony.
"360 will sell more consoles worldwide this generation than ps3"

the real competition is 360 and ps3, while wii is all on it's own. it was a great run for sony and now they are facing a real big problem from a company [microsoft] that can and probably will crush them. this doesn't mean nintendo is safe of course, ms will probably go after nintendo after they crush sony or simply leave nintendo alone.

btw, i know it's hard to swallow this idea but it's true.

peanuts compared to how many PC games there actually are.

Sure, but doesn't detract from my point. If they had very little to do with that particular segment of the market, they wouldn't have released as many influential games as they have.

I wouldnt call most of those games influential.

Sure, but it's quality over quantity. While only a few of them are big games, those that are big games are BIG games.

I wish people would stop using unbiased and review together. Everyone is slightly bias towards something.

Bah... I can't stand people who tout their unbiased viewpoint. They're like agnostics, acting unbiased because they have this misguided delusion that not having an opinion is better than having one.

But the 360 got one heck of a boost today in terms of a pro... Project Natal.

I think each of the console have their advantage and also edge so to remain unbiased is still possible as long as you are nto a fan boy where you revere the console instead the games and functionality. Its the game that make a console successful.

Personally this is my perspective on the 3 console as per below.

    Wii:-
Pros :- Is a good console for some light gaming and friends oriented where you can enjoy it with virtually anyone no matter if they are gamer or not. Great 1st party games like the Smash Bros and Mario games

Cons:- Weaker graphic (not much an issue), tonnes of shovelware, not to suitable for long gameplay session (just to me maybe) and slowed down on game production lately. No media playback

    Xbox 360
Pros:- Solid library of games regardless of genre(viva JRPG), graphics are decent, matured Xbox Live which give players the best online service (IMHO), Able to link to PC (Windows of course) for media support.

Cons:- The power brick looks menacing like a nuclear reactor, not the most heat friendly console around, it's still Microsoft ...

    PS3
Pros:- A muscle bound system waiting for the proper party to unleashed it (till now...none), cheapest BluRay player (at the time of writing), good media support, support PSP download play

Cons:- Game library seems limited and games no longer exclusive to him (a good news for me actually...fair fight), where are the JRPG that makes all Playstation successful? Expensive..in my country at least.

    Verdict:-

Wii :- good family console for weekend fun

360:- a good start and able to cater to all gamer

PS3:- a powerful system whose potential is yet to be fully utilized by producer.

I agree that the PS3 have more power in this segment but it seems like the producer is not tapping into the power yet as the if you compare games that exist in both 360 and PS3, you will tend to see the 360 is doing better in the PS3.

My only guess is that the programmer is yet to familiarize with the PS3 coding or the cost to bring the game graphic one level above 360 for the same game is too high to be justify.
