i just found out that PS3 can play WMV format, so i downloaded Yu-Gi-Oh TAS Season 1 in WMV format, however some of them appear as unsupported format while other play just fine.

anyone know how to solve this problem?

    thanks.

..prehaps it needs to be hacked, or put into the ps3 in a certain area...

Did you try looking to see if the info that told you about it has any advice-check google first?

You might need to activate it like you do on the PSP, check your system settings.

Are you sure it is real WMV format, and not just an AVI file that was renamed or something?

does it HAVE to be wmv?
XviD AVI not good enough for you?

The PS3 supports a ton of different codecs and I have a feeling that your wmv files are not all using the same codec.

ask little kuriboh why he put it in wmv.....

anyway i been manually converting all the wmv file into mp4 using PS3 video 9, luckily the series was short.......

    Rise from your grave!

I have a question about video formats on a PS3 Slim would I have to do a special conversion to play movies on it or can I just copy a movie on a thumb drive and play it that way? think the file in question is MPEG4 but I have a lot that are .avi just didn't know if it would be that simple or better off left alone, pretty much just asking out of pure boredom and wanting to monkey with something new today.

.avi is a container format. Whether or not a PS3 can play it depends on what codec it actually uses.

.avi or whatever is supposed to be thats in divx format (all of my divx movies end in .avi and play perfectly in my divx DVD player)

so anyway I guess I shall attempt a test and see what develops.

avi format works on the PS3, so does MPEG4.

Good, now do I need to put the files into the PS3 HD or can I just play them off the thumb drive or will it matter either way?

It can work either way. If you don't see the files on the thumb drive, highlight the thumb drive, press triangle and one of the option will enable you to find the files manually.

Cool that saved me from digging up a converter as no files were showing on my thumb drive, but the file is reading an end tag of .mvk and from what I dug up its a better version of mpg4 and avi

Mkv files don't work on the PS3, you'll have to convert it to any PS3 supported format.

Doing so as I type this i'm trying out a conversion with Video 9, its a 3 hour wait time, but if it works then yeah me!

    [Edit]
(Update) my older file work fine but the one I converted didn't got an 80028801 error guess I will either one find a better converter or just locate mpeg4 or avi files then during my battle my divx on the PC decided to go off and update itself and now it plays mvk files...go figure.
