Ok people I'm thinking about buying one of the above, but the problem is I can't decide which one... I like RPG's, good shooters, adventure games and original games ( like LittleBigPlanet). I hope some of you guys can help me making my choice a little easier. Woolie1994
Well, for a good selection of shooters and multiplayer stuff pick the 360 For more reliability and more extras pick the PS3
that's a good thing, it reduces loading times. Additionally, the PS3 hard disk is end-user upgradable.
well from my understanding xbox has an awesome selection of games that will keep you busy for a while. however the 360 may have the shorter lifespan compared to the PS3. sony is planning to support the PS3 for 10 years while microsoft is planning to support it for 2-4 years. so if you want awesome games (now) then you should get a 360. if you're willing to wait then get a PS3 Otherwise they're both very worthy choices
supporting the ps3 for ten years isnt as easy as it sounds. once either microsoft or nintendo introduces a new system with new features sony will be forced to compete like they did the last time around. the xbox failure rate isnt the problem it used to be.....microsoft has taken the appropriate steps to solve this problem and if that still doesnt make you feel better then buy your 360 at a big store that will offer you an additional warranty at their store for a few extra bucks with the warranty you are still paying less than a ps3 with an even better sense of security (ie the less reliable system with a better warranty is a safer bet then the more reliable system with a lesser warranty) i got my 360 pro with a three year warranty that even covers user error (ie my dumb ass breaking it) for less than the cost of a ps3 so at this point i would go out on a limb to say that the reliability issue with the 360 is no longer relevant. the 360 has more games and even comes bundled with a few (sure they suck but hey it is better than nothing). also having been around longer cheaper games are much more abundant for the 360 (at least from my experience) i mean saints row for ten bucks aint a bad deal. the ps3 has some features over the 360 like motion controllers which is also something to consider. also i have heard that the psn service is far inferior to live but is free so those are personal preferance issues. my girlfriends brother has a ps3 and offered to sell me one that apparently "fell off the truck" for a cheaper price than a 360 but i just dont like the ps3.......so weigh the pros and cons and buy what fits for you
ps3 because they can provide experiences that the 360 cannot. actually, i reconsider that idea. at first i thought based on what you can do with your hands. but then i relooked and found that the other can also do what the others can do with their hands. that is why i reconsidered. the only thing the ps3 can provide is conveniance with their blu ray drive as it can hold more information and it'll cause the need for massive amounts of discs. but then again, it also provides a longer wait time as the drives are probably slow, like the first cd based systems that used 2x [sometimes 1x] speeds. sony also offers free online play. of course unless the game happens to be an mmo or some sort of game where subscriptions was necessary. then there is that blu ray drive, which also works as a blu ray movie player. so not only a new game system, but also a new video player!
It's 2x, but those speeds are relative. 2x blu ray is not the same as 2x DVD or CD. in fact, 8x DVD is equivalent to the fastest CD drives available (54x)
1x is 36 megabits and 4.5megabytes according to wiki. so 2x would be double that, 9 megabytes. isn't it still slow? i mean you have 25 gbytes [ends up like 22-23 gbytes] of information and a drive that reads 9MB. and that's only the single layer discs. with dual layer you're looking at double the information and double the waiting time. if you play ps1 games on a ps2 you'll notice how fast load times are when it's at 24x. btw, the fastest cd drive is at 72x made by yamaha.
correct me if i am wrong but being as how the blue ray disc is the same size as one that has a sixth of the capacity wouldnt the drive be able to read more information per revolution? i think thats what loony means when he says that it is all relative. if a ps3 could only read data at 9 megabytes per second we would be able to father a child by the time gta4 is loaded
Thank you guys for all the replies, I think I'll buy a PS3 so i can get the loads of awsome games ahead of me. ( God of War 3!!! FFXIII!!!!(maybe Kingdom Hearts 3))
Frankly, I think the ability to play Blu-Rays is moot. I'm more than happy sticking to DVD quality movies. The only perk the PS3 provides is the free online multiplayer capability. As for me, I like the extra number of games available in the 360 stable. I don't mind the $35 a year I pay for Live... much. The hardware failure rate is problematic (had it already happen to me twice), but Microsoft has been pretty good about fixing it on their own dime. Of course, I'm backing my decision to buy a 360 instead of a PS3 because I can't shell out $400.
I'd have both of them. But only got xbox 360 at the moment. I think Xbox 360 has heaps better games than PS3 though.
