PS3 or Wii

I am just about to change my contract phone for work and I must choose a PS3 80Gb or Wii within 24 hours !!!!

I know the PS3 is better and worth £300 and it comes with 2 microphones and a Singstar game; but I have a 6 year old girl and 8 year old boy. The boy loves Fifa 09 and Star Wars games...the girl only plays for 5 minutes and is then bored.

We have the PS2 and eye toy and dance mats and loads of games, I know they are no longer compatible with the PS3!!!

The Wii is valued at only £170 and is more suitable for Families, but the extra's make it quite expensive, the main game board is another £60 and you can't get the game as it is sold out everywhere.

So the PS3 seems more upmarket and a much better games console for football games (for my boy), but the Wii is more suitable for family fun even if my girl doesn't play it yet. She has her own unused DS with loads of games, but still only interests her for 5 minutes at a time. She would rather watch Mama Mia on her DS...

Whichever I choose will be the wrong choice !!!!

Any suggestions??

No advantage in Blu-ray player as we still have Noah's TV with no plans to change....

Or do I get the PS3 and sell it on ebay, then buy a Wii with several extra's???

only get the ps3 if you intend to game on it your self, your kids will not appreciate it at all.

i just got a wii and its extremely fun i got it so i could play games with my girlfriend its so much fun and although some of the games are gimmicky there are a load of games that are really good

the wii has both fifa and PES so no problem there on the football game side and its made even more interesting by pointing and flicking the wiimote to pass and shoot.

its also good for if you have friends or family round cause every one form babies to grannies can have a go at most of the games


i'd say get the ps3 sell it on ebay then with the money buying on ebay a wii with loads of stuff with it.
just a tip with ebay change the search to "buy it now" and newly listed you will find people sell the bundles allot cheaper then amount that the auctions end on.

 

If your getting a free gaming console my first thought was to go for the PS3 since it's a more expensive console. Although a Wii is loads of fun for the family for definitely, we play the wii on just about every family occasion and dude even my mom plays the thing lol (she never plays games). So I recommend the Wii, family games like Mario Kart are a good one for the fam. Good luck!

 

It does seem that the wii is better for my kids, but only after I have bought loads of extras. The board (for fit and snowboarding is £60 without the games), even the extra hand controls are quite expensive for a four player game. Against that it does seem that the Wii can be chipped quite easily......

 

the wii is really easy to chip. just open it up and push the wii clip on the the right chip. make sure you get an older model as ones after November 2008 are very very hard to chip even for experienced modders.

you don't need wii fit just the extra controllers will do and you don't need all the things they clip in to.

best price on the net for that chip and a free tri-wing (the screw driver needed to open the wii)

if you are going to chip make sure you pay attention to regions as you can brick your wii by using ntsc game updates on a pal console and visa versa.

but then again if you get the above mentioned chip it has a function to block updates totally or just block non own region updates

 

If you want to buy something for your kids then I would say the Wii, but if it's for you only clearly go for the PS3
Anyway there aren't that much great games on the Wii coming out, and the game archives only have a bunch of great games (super smash bros brawl, mario kart, zelda twilight princess) compared to the PS3 (MGS4, Street fighter 4, resident evil 5, fallout 3, and more)

 

on the controllers, Wii remotes are actually very cheap compared to other controllers.
You can't really have the internet make decisions like this, there are people like me who would recommend the Wii to anyone (and probably smash a PS3 if i got one) and others who would do the same for a PS3 or 360.
before I get called a fanboy, It's not that im "pro-nintendo" its more that I'm just "anti-sony", the PS2 ruled but the PS3 was the largest failure in gaming since the Virtual Boy.

I own a Wii but I don't play it anymore, handhelds are better then consoles these days

you've missed the point completely, you are talking about serious gaming for gamers not a kiddy choice

the wii has loads of great games and they are family orientated so appropriate for a 6 and an 8 year old

fallout 3 and resident evil are 18s (think before you post )

 

Wait so are you getting them for free? If so get a Ps3. It's more expensive, and if you don't like it after a while, sell it and get a wii.

A PS3 would probably be better for older people (not seniors), since most of the games are directed towards that crowd.

The wii is for the family. From what I hear your daughter isn't very much into video games. In my opinion I think you should ignore her preferences and focus on the boy. I'm not trying to be mean or inconsiderate but as I said before the gril doesnt seem to be into video games. Therefore you should leave her to liking her own toys and wait for her to like video games by herself. If you are trying to force her it will only be a waste of money and time.

 

oh yeah totally forgot about the ESRB ratings, if they're kids the Wii have way way more E rated

 

get a PS3 and grap a copy of Little Big Planet and an extra controller (or two), it will keep you and your kids busy for a long time.

get the wii the kids will enjoy it more, plus its not like it the wii doesn't have any good adult game either......................... or is the time up by now

that's why i suggested getting the ps3 selling it on ebay and getting a second hand one off of ebay with controllers. i got mine off of ebay for £150 with a few controllers and a few games.

see i did say it

most of the ones on ebay are in perfect condition as allot of people bought them when they came out but as those people were serious gamers they got board of them and most have just sat on a shelf for a year and only been played a handful of times

 

Went back to the shop today with a better deal from one of their own online branches, I get the same deal either the PS3 or a Wii but this time with WiiFit and the Wii Balance board. This makes more economical sense as the board and game take it up to the same value as the PS3.

Great to have so much feedback, and now steering more towards the Wii with this deal. Hopefully I will put the order in before the weekend!!!

Wiifit is a waste of money, if you want to work out, you can work out without a machine to tell you.

 

wii fit is not really about fitness its just another controller, lots of games are incorporating it
