Odd question...feel free to move... Sure you can install linux to a ps3...but with games functions disabled (and thus emulators apparently won't work) then why bother other than a cheap looking pc that cost more than getting a decent computer? And I heard the 360 can have windows...could the ps3? All I want is advantages...and if it's easy to swap back and forth in system OS's...for future refferance....I doubt I'd bother but more info is better than no info
PS3 will not run windows, it is a unique and highly advanced architecture that windows hasnt been compiled for (but Linux has). It is not Intel x86/x64 based. Yes the RX chip is locked out, but you still have the Cell, which is EXTREMELY good at complex calculations. So essentially you have a supercomputer with not much graphics capability (like most supercomputers). Theres talk of people trying to retrofit another 512MB of ram to the PS3 board and using the console as a CGI rendering platform because its far better at the job than an x86/x64 computer.
So it's more or less for devolpment/super computer stuff? Hrm...nothing at all for me there...thanks anyway sir.
I read it. I've seen my friend play NO$GBA on his Ps3, great speed, but it can barely handle the graphics unless it is a small game (like small GBA games).
