Hello everyone Im doing a an led mod on my ps3 sixaxis controller. I just need to know if it would be ok if I soldered on the pwr and grnd that come from the battery. (Basically its the white box on the very left side of the controller board where the battery is plugged into.)

If I did solder off those to would that short my controller out would the leds ever turn off? Any one help me?

If you take power directly from the battery, there will be no way to turn them off. It's like taking a couple pieces of wire, a D battery, and a flashlight bulb and connecting it all together with no switch or other disconnect means.

You will not short out the battery, because an LED is not a short circuit, it is a load. Depending on the size of the battery and what all you plan on adding to it, it may overload it though. LEDs do not use much power, so it would take a lot to overload the battery.

You need to find where the power portion of the circuit is that is energized when the controller is turned on, not just the power that comes from the battery. I'm sure there are modding tutorials out there that will have a better explanation of the circuit board.

depending on what the output of the battery is you could blow the led.

Well, I did assume that the LEDs would be for the voltage of the battery :)

    Edit:
The first few google results had LED mods but the LEDs were on all the time, they just connected it to the battery like Goodle wants to. Personally I would search a little more and find a power source that switches on/off with the controller. It exists somewhere, and will be all around better in the end.

It also mentions using 3.7V LEDs

Apparently there is also a spot in the circuit board under the PS button for an LED, it is just empty. Sony must have had design plans for having the PS button light up by scrapped the idea, leaving the circuit board wiring there, but the LED not.
