ps3 backwards compaitability

Discussion in 'Sony' started by papa_moustache, Nov 14, 2009.

  1. Well, in the UK it seems there aren't many PS3 consoles that have BC, but I had the same problem with PS2.

I bought a PS1, got some nice games,
A few years later, got a PS2, which could play PS2 and PS1 games. It broke. So I got a slim. It didn't work with PS1, so I kept the PS1. I'm now thinking of getting a PS3, but I couldn't find any new ones that had BC with PS2, so I'm thinking I might as well just keep either both the PS1, PS2 and PS3 or just have the PS2 and PS3, since the PS3 can play PS1 games. or I could wait for Sony to make another PS3 with PS2 backwards compatibility, because there are some rumours of it being made as another new feature...

what do you think I should do?

Weird-my slim ps2 works with all games currently :)

I wouldn't hold your breath-they took out the feature to reduce manufacturing cost.

Get a 60GB model-they are mostly backwards compatibily-but make sure you got plenty of cash for it.

That is a lsit of what works on a 60GB model.

Also I heard that all ps3's can play ps1 games, but wether or not restricted to psn store purchases or disc is another matter.

    Not just PSN, real discs.

But from what I understand it's not perfect, and I think the playstation website has a list of possible problems. Most of the problems are just minor graphical glitches, and it's only on a few games, not all of them. (Similar to how emulators work now).

All PS3s can play PS1 games.

only 20gig, 60gig, and Early 80gig (4 usb ports) have full PS2 bc.

now there's a patent floating around the net stating that Sony found a way to totally emulate the ps2's emotion engine with the ps3's Cell chip. But no one knows if they will actually bring back BC with a patch (it IS possible) obviously they patented it!!!!!!!

heard a rumour on IGN about a possible psn update that would allow bc but its only a rumour
I advise on buying a Ps3 because the slim is only around $300 and ditching the ps1

You'll know when a ps3 is fully bc if the disk finish is mirror like and not matted mine is the original 80GB also look for 4 USB on the front instead of 2. Get it at a pawn shop or ebay i got mine from a pawn shop and repaired it for 110 at sony got a brand spanking new one (original) 3 days later SCREW PS1 Keep PS2 if you don't want to get a PS3

PS2s are cheap as hell in the US, $50 max for a used one at gamestop, thats less than buying a brand new PS3 game, so if you cant wait for sony to implement it sometime in the future just get a slim ps2

I've got a PS3 and PS2 at the moment, personally I think that's the best option for now. Then, either Sony will let us play our games on the PS3 or it's time to download a PS1/2 emulator. At least we can hook up the PS3 controller to computers :)

Logitech and many other brands make DualShock clones that work just fine with PCs.
