Ok, console is 80gb, latest firmware (3.15).

I downloaded it via net connection (leeched off my mother's while asleep XD) and when I tried to use it for a test run it told me I needed "a wired connection for my console (2005) "

...because of space, and the lack of legth of any cables (and the fact I don't WANT to move something of this size) what work arounds could I use?

-Any devices that can trick it into thinking it has a wireless connection (akak something wireless plugged into the ethernet slot)?

-Could I use my laptop as a bridge and make it use my mother's net in a complicated way? (as in plug the ps3 to laptop, then using my laptop's wireless, connect it online like that)

    -Anything else that could help?

I downloaded the software via wireless :p

Thing is, it won't let me use the app unless it's wired...weird.

Also, a little fact...the 20gb model (yeah they made those...) didn't have wifi, thankfully from the 40gb onwards, they all did.

PS3 only have one Wifi NIC and one Lan NIC, IIRC ad-hoc party is like Xlink Kai, using Wifi to connect your PSP and use the LAN to connect ot the server.

basically without LAN connection, you cannot use ad-hoc party.

feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Well that sucks, if i could download it wirelessly..why not play it in the same way?

    ...damn bloody complicated system!

    ...anything else people?

well IIRC PS3 was using a normal Wifi NIC, which allow one device to connect with it. so after your PSP is connected to your PS3 wirelessly, it unable to connect to your router. so a wired connect was needed to connect to your router.

that mean even if you are manage to trick your PS3 thinking it got a wired connection, it will not connect to the internet because the connection wasnt there.

    Hrm...I understand now.

I tried to connect my ds via usb adaptor...and the laptop it was connected to was leeching wireless internet in the first place :p

Sometimes it would connect, but most times it would fail.

..guess I need a rather large cord...about 100 metres should do it unless someone else has a work around.

Yeah...unless the ps3 is moved which I'd hate to do...it's stuck here.

well that USB adaptor acted like a 2nd Wifi NIC for your laptop which allow your DS to connect to your laptop and it is feeding off the internet connection from your laptop.

but i found those USB adaptor wasnt really stable, a router is better.

Is there anything I could do to do the same effect as the ds method I once used?

Better dodgy net than no net :p

i dont think so, even if you found a device that let you do so, i doubt you'll able to run ad-hoc party because i suspect it been program that way.

of couse if SONY were to release such product, they would update ad-hoc party to be compatible with it.
