I am planning on buying a PS2 Slim...I have two questions though since it's a Japanese model:
1.Are there any differences, like are the menus the same?
    2.Will I be able to install a mod-chip?

    1. Yes, some games may be region locked.
    2. Yes, if you know how. Better you buy a pre-modded PS2 or go to a store that mods PS2s for you.... oh wait, you might be from a country that considers mod-chipping as an illegal thing... sucks to be you then LOL!

    WRONG!

Only 60gb and some 80gb's (in america) work with ps3 games, the silver trim helps finding these elusive models...

1.The language can be changed I believe but it's been ages sincemI touched mine...
2.Prehaps, but being japanese makes things difficult.

Why did you buy a ps2 from japan anyways?

    More like anything not nstc-j

already have a ps3, but like to play games on original consoles...either way out of curiosity how do you do it cause I highly doubt backups can be played...
Although I know your joking, I do know how I have done it before, I'm just wondering if it will support the modchip seeing how it's from another region.

I am planning, and like I said it was the only option since the white ones -
(Limited Edition Ceramic White Sony Playstation 2 Slim System Bundle: PS2 Console)
are all out of stock in all the major online and walk-in stores :-\
Honestly the only place that has them is toysnjoys.
I want a legit site as well...
EDIT: I remembered this site and it seems they might have them http://www.vpgames.com

sounds kinda "iffy"...only system I ever bought at a pawn shop was a GameCube, which is still alive...

Well it's a known pawn shop not a "porn" shop :p

Cash converters ftw, my ps3 also came from these guys.

Sure the system has been attacked by a cat but it runs fine.

He's correct. Not all fat PS3s play PS2 games.

There will most likely be a PS2 emu for PS3 (seeing as even DOLPHIN is being ported to it) but it probly can't match the compatibility of actual hardware.

So, ya, be careful with that one.

    -_-

The model comparison explains exactly what I mean, but the most notible feature (I think it only applies to Australia but not 100% sure) was the silver trim, that is how you find them here, oh and 4 usb ports was another thing to spot (though the chart better explains, with model numbers listed).

In conclusion, not ALL fat models play ps2 games

If you jail break it then yes, that is true.
