Just got one-slim model... I chose it to save space and money (came with 3 games-got to chose some classics XD) and because I chose not to get the exclusive ps3 games... However-I have some questions... 1.Thinking of a mod chip-reccomend best models? 2.If chipped can it play other region games-I have a coppied disc of re outbreak that's nstc 3.What other kinds of mods can I do-I know the hard drive is out of the question..but to save $10 on something twice the size...er 4.If mod chip can't go all region...where can I find a free loader disc iso XD 5.Is it true that the slim does psx WORSE than the original-hearing conflicting reports... 6.Any disadvantages to what I bought other than size-just curious XD 7.Does that trick where you can play copied psx games without mod chip work on this slim ps2 (as in open lid change disc etc...) 8.Any other advice/suggestions,etc... And not interested in mcboot or anything else where I have to pay money-already blown $139 today and another $70 or double once my gc is done Post Merge: [time]1249306158[/time] Ok-just looked up the serial code-90002 Guess (from a shop point of view) I'm limited to this... http://www.acegamestore.com/products/ps2-modchip-modbo-4-415 Or are thier more options-I just want all region dvd support and free region games-nstc on pal machine anyone?
1-I am against the mod chip. So sorry ,I can't say one. 2-I dont think so. My friend had one and she couldn't play some games. But it might not be becouse of that. 3-... Theese questions are for mod chip only? Sorry. Thats what I can do ^
Honestly, since it's so late in the game for the PS2, any mod-chip that's compatible with your model PS2 will work. I personally used the flip-top case mod with the swap discs and it works fine. Big bonus in that you don't have to solder, bad in that you can't use dual-layer discs and you have to boot with the swap-disc beforehand. I want to say you need a disc to do region free, but I could be wrong. I know my boot disc handled that appropriately, so it wouldn't surprise me to see mod-chips do the same. Certainly can't hurt to try. Just be aware that your TV will need to support NTSC mode if you're playing from a PAL playstation 2, otherwise your screen will be heavily distorted and in black and white. If you're adventurous you can still hook-up a hard drive to the slimline PS2 (not sure if there's a certain models apply here). Pretty much limited with it, though. BitTorrent. The ISO itself shouldn't be really big, so you might get lucky and find it on RapidShare/MegaUpload, too. Some games don't work on the PS2, but they're few and far between (read: rare enough so you shouldn't have to worry). I can guarantee you that any games you play will work fine. No, just enjoy it for what it is. No. That only worked on the PlayStation, and even then, it damaged the drive motor. I wouldn't attempt it. Compare prices. Go to used game shoppes and look around--most of them are overflowing with PS2 games for cheap. Buying a used PS2 game for chump change is a lot better than dealing with the hassles of downloading/burning ISOs. Looks like a fine enough chip, just hope you like soldering. Try it and see. Certainly couldn't hurt.
Hrm, thanks ricky. But i chose to let them do the modding-cbf buying screw drivers-rough handed you see XD @asd-if your on a mod site-why you agaisn't a mod chip-I'm a die hard nintendo fan, and while I would never mod my wii, I'm not agaisn't it.. Just curious to as why you said is all... (Many places offered crap prices for this system-but where I got it offered 3 free games-best deal around-and games there are normally $10 no matter what game-almost got kingom hearts if it weren't for condition XD) ANy more suggestions/advice/answers for my questions? Post Merge: [time]1249347482[/time] Also another question-can a chipped ps2 play copied psx games or just ps2 copied games? Post Merge: [time]1249380557[/time] ...and what can I use the front usb ports for-other than official ps2 crap.
It decresases the life of Ps2. 2 people I know lost their Ps2 becouse of that chip ,and they bought them after I bought. Mod for Ps2 is wrong ,I think. It may be okay now ,but it was awful 3 years ago.
Those back then weren't perfected...and even now... Pirate made devices are meant to do so-cheap creations to play things it's not meant to do... Even my acekard 2.1 is starting to wwear down as my brother found out-gba games fail to load correctly now... I'm aware of the risk...but just sick of dealing withj a ps2 emulator that can't run fulll speed due to power limiations.
There is always a risk when you mod or chip any system and in my thoughts are the decreasing of "life" could have been from using cheap chips, solder anything I'm sure things might have gotten better over time, but still the risk remains.
I'm aware of the risk-lucky for me there is many a ps2-and if I'm lucky a ps3 chip shall come out-thus letting me change willingly... I'm prepared for the risk-my psp survived a hack-my acecard 2.1 is dieing-I'm prepare to deal with a dead console.
That would be the upside of modding, when systems are plentiful if you screw it up go get another one and try it again.
