okay so i Have a few PS1 games that have trouble playing now one that freezes after a certain story point (ff tactics at the point were a certain royal gets stabbed) the music plays and the animations still move but nothing else happens... I intended to try and copy the files to computer then burn those files to a disc to see if swap tactics a an unharmed disc would get around this however one of the files in the event folder from the game CD called EVTCHR (a little over 4MB.) copies to the computer but a second after the files removes it self with the error cyclic redundancy error. Considering this is in the event folder and the freeze happens during a story event I can't help but wonder if this cyclic redundancy thing is what causes the problem ( i know that cyclic redundancy errors refer to corrupted data). SO, my question is is there any way to fix this, and if so what do i need to do? also what (free program) is best to make a copy of a PS1 game CD with? The other PS1 game I need to make a copy to be able to play since the game CD is messed up to the point that though you can play it has a tendency to slow down during cg stuff and randomly freezes while loading areas while you move (parasite eve 1) Hell it won't even load from the first disc anymore and trying to load it on a PS2 (first disc that is) gets a insert PS or PS2 error even tho it IS a PS1 game lol. I have to load the game from 2ND disc and then load my game then use the part where it says insert game disc one to get it to play and even then it sometimes says wrong disc making me have to open and close tray til it reads the disc .
i recommend downloading new isos of those scratched up games, and then burning those- besides they are available and will save you the headache of trying to rip them yourself. as for burning them- when i made backups i used clonecd and it worked pretty well. good luck.
you can't just copy the contents of the CD, it won't work. You have to make images of the CD using imgburn.
no, sometimes imaging can work even with scratched discs. Copying the contents will never work because not everything on the disc is visible.
Err image burn? is that a program or? I don't think I'm dumb but as you can tell This is first time I've ever tried to burn a game cd. (usually i keep my cds in working condition but when you still play them alot, eventually some problem or another will arise)
Here's a link. http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download when you burn, be sure to write at 4x or 8x If you'll play it on a PS1, or 8x-16x for a PS2.
kk found it with google and got it dled now gonna try it.(img burn that is) but hmm what data and sound reading speed should I use? ohhh lol tried to post this without seeing personusers post.. so atm im writing the data at 4x but what should the sound read speed be? same as data speeed or different? And I''l use a ps1 so i can make use of swapping (not mod kind just the free kind that tends to take practice to get to work lol) that is swap out using that greatest of toolss called your hand lol. I know it works though since i've had to use it before but I'll have to get used to the timing again of when to swap.. annoying but free heh.. I could do the swap with ps2 but thats more work for the same effect. since you'd have to open the top then open the lid of disc tray to be able to swap discs manually without a mod. too much hassle imo. bah just hit 95% copy using img burn and now im getting 2 errors unrecovered read error, and no seek complete
read speed doesnt really matter. Slower might be more accurate if the disc is badly scratched though.
PS1 games ALWAYS give a shitload of read errors when copying or burning. Just turn off verify when you burn/copy em. However for future reference PS2 games usually DON'T give read errors.
Hmm thanks guys! FFT works now , unfortunately the PE screws up during flashbacks (screen goes black with multicolor blockish lines on the screen)
